Help! R6870+ Gelid icy vision

So im not sure if i am missing something or what but I just bought the Icy Vision GPU cooler. Ive heard amazing things about it and I am ready to see these amazing things. I followed the manual step by step and everything made sense. However once I get it plugged in and I look at the temp they are sky high. 45c idle and 88-95c loaded @ stock settings. My stock cooler hit no more than 77C loaded.I feel that the problem lies within heatsink to GPU contact. Most of you will say reseat but I have reseated this guy about 6 times and I have also redone my thermal paste with each reseating. I have also tried two different pastes. The kind that comes with Icy Vision and MX-4. I put a good amount on there(enough paste to cover the chip itself. If anybody could help me it would be great.

Im hoping its just me being stupid.lol which is totally possible since i am attempting this install at 2am.lol

Tighten it down harder. Seriously. Does it fit that series of card or is it just a coincidence?

sounds like you did a poor tim job or maybe somthing on your card is to high and stoping the heatsink from making good contact. My friend had a icy on his 480 and it really drove the temps down kept it under like 60c from 95c on the stock cooler. Also make sure you have rev2 iv you got a rev1 it might not even fit the 6870 right and that could be your issue. Gelid officaly only says the cooler with fit refernce cards from ati/nv if you got a non ref somthing could be tall causing you issues look real close with the cooler on and see if anything is hitting the fans or heatpipes stoping it from tighting down good.

Yes it is a Rev 2.
I have the MSI 6870 from the initial launch day. I could be wrong but i believe it is a ref. design. I will try and see if there isnt a screw maybe not tight enough or something maybe stopping it from contacting the gpu. I wish it was a poor TIM job. Ive used more, ive used less, ive used just the right amount.lol

Okay I figured it out. BTW it is by no means stated in the paperwork. On the mounting plate for the GPU the screw holes on one side are slightly indented where on the backside they are not. I possibly over looked this because of how tired I was.lol Anyways flipping the bracket over made that ever so slight difference in height and it works great. 32C idle 45C loaded.

Thanks guys

Hi,

I have a Asus HD6870DirectCU +Gelid Icy Vision, which are the monting holes in the metal plate i have to use?

Nothing comes, on the manual.

Anyway, probably by time time the answer comes about i have already figured it out.

Help is welcome, anyway
