Oh, and Steam doesn't limit your installs whatsoever. You can install your steam games on as many machines as you damn well please.

i agree securom does kinda of suck, I can install a game with a 3 game limit on as many pcs as I want, but i can only have 3 activations, just like how steam does 1, valve's just nice enough to deactivate when you log into another machine. That's an advantage to having an account and not just a cd key.

Ffs, the GOG version has no DRM. Problem = resolved.

So many babies in this thread.

Let's say you have two computers in your house, you buy two retail games with SecuROM you can install them on both computers and you can play game 1 on PC A and someone else can play game 2 on PC 2, you just need the disk for each game.

If however you bought the same two games on Steam, there's only one people at a time who can play, I know that you can play single player games if you go offline, but not only does Steam's offline mode doesn't always work correctly, it won't help you if the game you want to play is a multilayer one.

I'd prefer no DRM like everybody of course, but a lot of people make those DRM seem a lot worse than they really are but spend all day praising Valve while Steam uses one of the most draconian system of DRM existing.

But it's valve, their DRM totally can't be bad! Or... dun dun dun... worse than securom!

That's totally unpossible. rolleyes.gif

No DRM is fair and I don't want a secondary program running on my computer. I can't believe some people are excusing DRM and SecuROM. SecuROM that is blamed for a multitude of computer related problems and crashes...

I am sure I read a few months back that there wasn't going to be any DRM on this game.

I really wanted to support them since it was a PC centric game.

Oh well.

Do you have any game by valve?? If so stop playing it, it requires a whole stupid program called steam... no excuses it's drm.

The only reason this would be required is for a lan party and...wait, what's this? Lan works fine in offline mode?

Right. Come back when you have a leg to stand on.

Steam is hardly anything near draconian. It is the lightest system in current use right now, and on top of that it gives you features you actually want to use. When was the last time SecuROM ever let you chat with friends playing entirely different games from within your game? Or look up a FAQ while in-game without alt-tabbing? Or facilitated VOIP? Steam also doesn't hold your games hostage if your internet cocks up. It works fine offline, doesn't need a connection to start games, and if you have your password saved it doesn't even need a connection to start up! So it's ahead of Ubi's system.

I'd love no DRM but I'd be naive to believe that's the case. So Steam it is. You want to be an idiot? You keep right on being an idiot. I'll just enjoy being able to play youtube videos while in-game. Augmented soundtracks, see.

IT does everytime you log into steam on a different machine, deactivates the other machine and activates the current one...
Also what about the times when offline mode completely fails to work? When it fails it doesn't even allow you to launch your games....

Right. Come back when you have a leg to stand on.

I have absolutely no experience with Steam but... yes, with many games, e.g. Modern Warfare, there is a LAN option without internet...

this is kinda wierd of them the first witcher came with securrom and their was a big outcry so they ended up releasing a patch 1.5 later on that removed the disk checks and people were all happy about it.
