Going SLI -- two EVGA GTX 470's

Thread Starter
Just pulled the trigger on another EVGA GTX 470.

It has a VID of .987mv and I was told it could do 800Mhz no problem.

Looking forward to it.

I will post before and after benchies for all to see, so subscribe if you care.

And also suggest benchmarks for me.

I plan to eventually watercool both but for now, they're gonna be on air.

Anyone else have SLI 470's?

Well your first 470 is .925 VID right? So you are definitely not going to get the same overclock with both of them. .987 is like... pretty horrible compared to your other card.

lol, you remembered? haha

But both in SLI @ 800MHz will be fairly strong.

Gratz bro. You're right, two 470's at 800MHZ can smash some games into the ground. Then on water shoot for 900 and you won't even care when Kepler rolls out .

Yes sir. Good plan. I think 900MHz should be attainable

800 is nothing to sneeze at. Kinda makes you feel bad though when you hook up a 470 with its retarded cousin that does 80MHz less

yeah... true that.

I realized 880 wasn't too stable so I backed it down to like 850 for now

The idea that a higher stock VID correlates exactly w/ low max overclock is kinda bunk IMHO. The setting of the stock VID is very imprecise to begin with ... I've had a bunch of Fermi's, and I've gotten cards that were WAY overvolted (like 62.5mV) at stock compared to what they actually needed to be stable, and others that couldn't take a 12.5mV drop w/o flaking out.

If one was at .925 and other at 1.025V I might worry a bit but I think all cards 1V and under stock VID are going to end up being very close to one another in terms of max OC.

Grats on your new card, btw Jam3s. I know you been pondering it for awhile and looking forward to it.

I dunno what you have in the way of games, but some free benches that scale really nice in SLI are: Unigine Heaven and Sanctuary, 3dMark11, Vantage (esp. High and Extreme), Stalker Call of Pripyat (there's a free bench for it), Aliens Vs. Predator bench, Lost Planet 2 bench, Just Cause 2 (free bench w/the demo on Steam).

Any of those will show you some real nice gains w/the 2nd card and make you feel good about the purchase

Thanks brett! I can't wait. I have heaven, stalker, vantage, 3DM11, 06, FC2, Metro 2033, Crysis 1, (I don't believe the merits of the unofficial crysis 2 bench). And I think that's about it.

800Mhz may be a bit hard for the second card to keep stable. I know i have 2 470's with similar differences in stock Vid. And the second card can keep up with the first on. I run one at 800mhz, and the other at 770 24/7. They game extremely well, and scale great too! Not quilt like the 5xx series, but hey the beast mode any game i throw at them thus far....
