Extreme bottleneck with GTX 460 - Page 7

I am an AMD fan. Looked up some parts for ya. Looking ~444 for Cpu, ram, mobo, and 80 silver 500w psu. ~375 if you don't need a new PSU.

AMD Phn x4 965 BE
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103727 - 139.99

500w PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341016 - 69.99

Crucial Ballistix 4G (2Gx2) 1333
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148323 - 54.99

My sig Mobo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128441 - 179.99

For good cooling I would suggest the H50 or H70 closed loop water cooling kit for decent overclocking, or for a little better cooling for around the same price (~70) The thermalright silver arrow is a great air cooler.

You can see I am running close to the same thing, UD5 mobo with Phn x6 Ballistix 1600 ram with thermalright silver arrow cooler and a gtx460 gpu and I typically run most games 120FPS average with full settings. Older games I cap their software limits (cs:s 300 fps cap, I hit that with ease). For me AMD was just a better pricing option, got more for my money. Intel are great chips but I just couldnt get as much system for the money as I could with AMD. It gets the job done, I wasnt looking for the end all be all system.

Also, if you look hard and check out some of the announcements, you can find cheaper mobos that asus and msi are saying you can bios update for AM3+ capatability which would allow you to upgrade to bulldozer in the future.

Pairing a Phenom I with a GTX 460 is just asking for trouble Max out every option ingame to push the GPU as hard as possible, and either make a cheap upgrade to AM3 (motherboards, Athlon II's and DDR3 aren't that expensive anymore) or find a good 95w compatable with your socket. Look for a new monitor also, your not pushing that Fermi at all, and you could have been happy with a 9800GT/4850.

Did you find it has helped increase performance after reading that thread link I posted?

I have a friend who said he tried it and was unsuccessful but yet another who said he was successful with it. Let me know.

Could you fill out your system specs here so I don't have to keep jumping to page one to remind myself what you are working with? :-P

Great find. I actually had not heard about that until now. I will have to keep that in mind if I run across people with the same issue with that kind of hardware. +1

Definitely. Keep it in mind because my buddy had a bunch of money when the 9500/9600's came out and were 'all the rage' at the time. Funny for him he was all bummed out it didn't perform like he expected, only for us to find out about that issue.

The later revisions of the chips the 9x50's didn't have the TLB bug - keep that in mind too for future reference.

Is your frame rate always at either 30fps or 60fps? If it is, it's because an option called VSYNC (or vertical sync) is making your frame rate match the vertical refresh rate of your monitor.

There should be an option in the Nvidia control panel, and listed again in the game menus.

Buying stuff is fun, but honestly your rig is perfectly fine for modern gaming. If you're going to do anything, get a cheapo after market cooler, like the one linked below, and have some fun trying to overclock your CPU a little bit.

You should be buying a cheap athlon 645 and wait till bulldozer comes out.
