[UPDATED 4.3GHz] Need help with 2600(non K).

Thread Starter
The core speed is fluctuating when I run CPU-Z it jumps from 1600-3900MHz. Also I get disk I/O error when I boot up windows 7 (64bit) but just click a key and it starts right up. Stuck, can't find much info either as it is i7 2600 not 2600k

I know the multipliers are not unlocked I got this cpu at my local tigerdirect for $155 (original cooler/fan was damaged from box I planned on aftermarket anyways). First some info about the rig.

i7-2600
MSI P67A-GD65 with IA latest bios.
Asus GTX 570
corsair xms3 3x4GB (12GB)
Cosair 1000w
Coolermaster hyper 212+
Plenty of air flowing through my antec 900.
500G seagate with the OS and 2x 2TB seagates to store my movies/music/games.
samsung Blu-Ray burner.

I tried to follow this guide.
http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...-oc-guide.html

Basically I want to achieve a solid speed with just multiplier and then start messing with the base frequency if I can. Something like this would be awesome for the amount of money I have spent on this thing http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1693948.

I appreciate any help I can get spent over 7 hours messing with this thing, about had enough.

The processor speed will reduce down to 1.6 ghz in order to conserve power when it's not in use, you can shut this off if you choose but no really reason to and it's perfectly ok that its doing it.

In regards to overclocking, I can't really help you there ... if you wanted to overclock you should have purchased the 2600K.

Update I messed with the base frequency up 150, running stable for over an hour now at 4020 MHZ.

Did you mean 105 base clock? As 150 base clock is impossible for i7 2600.

Although even 105 would make 3990mhz under Turbo and not 4020

In any case, great CPU deal for what you paid for.

Just did a prime95 run for an hour this morning. Actually getting better speeds at under 1.3v on the BIOS, although in CPU-Z idol is around 1.27 and under full load at an hour it is reading 1.39.

A few things, this thing runs super cool even on the hyper 212+. I know I am not at 1.4v and pushing 4.8GHz but I hardly crack 60C with over an hour on prime95.

Again I wanted to thank you guys for helping me out, hopefully with a few more tweaks I can break 4.1.

Latest run is in there.

I'm unsure if you're trolling with faked screens or not - but here's a couple of things that are just flat out wierd with your results:

i7 2600 @ 39x and 42x multipliers - This is NOT possible period.

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1775935

12GB triple channel with a 1155 CPU? Am I in Oompa Loompa land?

Anyone else care to chime in?

42x is the max multiplier for Turbo on the 2600 and 41x on the 2500. You can't go beyond 42x and 41x on them. 38x and 37x are the stock turbo multipliers. Also, it says Dual Channel so you sir are quite stupid. 3 Sticks, 2 in Dual Channel and 1 in Single Channel.

By logic I thought 38x was the max, as 3.8 is the stock turbo. Thanks for pointing out its actually up to 42.

I saw the 12GB jumped to conclusion. Inattentive perhaps, but hardly stupid.

Won't the single channel 4GB slow down the dual channel 8GB? Does OP need tons of memory but doesn't care about bandwidth?

Why run 3 sticks in such an un-optimal way?
