I saw the 12GB jumped to conclusion. Inattentive perhaps, but hardly stupid.

Won't the single channel 4GB slow down the dual channel 8GB? Does OP need tons of memory but doesn't care about bandwidth?

Why run 3 sticks in such an un-optimal way?
He most likely used a triple channel kit lying around. Pretty much, any Sandybridge CPU that has Turbo has up to 4 multipliers above the stock turbo multiplier. So 38 + 4 = 42, 37 + 4 = 41, etc. but that is the maximum limit. The reason I said it was stupid was because you assumed rather than looking it up Which makes an ass out of you for criticizing and calling someone out as a troll.

I would imagine though that running 3 sticks would slow it down overall.

makes more sense than buying 12GB for a SB build

I wasn't actually sure, see:

but you are correct I did assume without looking up. Proves however much we think we know, there is still much to learn

i7 2600 @ 39x and 42x multipliers - This is NOT possible period.

12GB triple channel with a 1155 CPU? Am I in Oompa Loompa land?

Anyone else care to chime in?
Not trolling and not fake screens. You can adjust each multiplier to 44-43-42-41, which in turn puts them at the max of 42. I know people don't even like thinking about overclocking without a K next to their chip. But it is possible (there wasn't always K chips and overclocking existed then too.

Yea it is a spare 3 channel kit, prob getting a 4th but working on overclocking my ram too. Which seems to be really difficult on this MSI P67-GD65. I try to put it up and it spits hot fire at me.

If you don't mind how did you get the CPU to stay on 42x multiplier?

Thanks in advance
