$800 budget build

Thread Starter
He's gonna be mainly using it for Photoshop, Cinema4d (3d programs), and BF3

Here's what I came up with so far:

Alright, I made the changes. The processor i'll grab from Microcenter, 30 bucks cheaper

He has a hard drive, so that's not necessary. Case he's buying a friend's spare.

Final costs:

Do your best (or worst) OCN

You could swap out that 560 for a 6950, and i'd recommended going for a Sandybridge system at that price

Just my 2 cents, and sorry if that isn't helpful

You added case in twice

If he doesn't need USB 3 and doesn't mind an Open Box item, you could get this motherboard for $70.

And for RAM, for $5 more you could get these.

the ram he picked is great

its missing an optical drive

make a few accounts and use the $25 off $100 promo to save ~75-100

Yeah, I'd recommend Sandy Brigde too. And a GTX 460 instead to lower the price, depends on his needs, of course.
Perhaps an i5-2500K on an P67 platform. Your is not a bad build though.

A Nvidia card will be splendid for CS5 (CUDA). So I won't recommend AMD in this case.

880G chipset may be pretty useless in the end
Why not an 870 chipset mobo or so?

There are also two cases in the "total" table?

Going to LGA1155 won't be worth it if you have to downgrade the GPU quite a fair ways (which makes more difference than CPU in nearly all situations)

It certainly depends on what he'll be doing. Gaming isn't the first on his list.
