Wanna snag this memory, tell me what you think. - Page 2

2x4GB ECOs come in 1600 8-8-8 flavour max I think, and I don't know if they OC as well (likely not considering 2x4GB binning)

The Ripjaws are a very good kit for the price at the moment, easily 6-8-6 capable; you'd be amiss if you didn't consider it. The ECOs are also great, they usually get slightly higher binning than the Ripjaws (i.e. can do 1T instead of 2T, sometimes they may get BBSE IC to do 6-7-6) however the extra $17 (at the moment) may not be worth it to you

So you think he'd be better off getting the 2x2gb than a 1600 2x4gb kit?

And if so why?

I only ask because I think when it comes to memory I trust ur opinion above everyone elses

This is that I learned from xd_1771.
2X2gb are easier to get tighter timing then 2x4gb. Phenom II x6 can easily handle 4 dimms when ocing and don't effect the ocing. Phenom II x2, x3 x4 and Athlon II x2, x3, x4 it is the luck of the draw for 4 dimm that doesn't effect the oc. For gaming 4gb is fine and if you do video editing 8gb is better.

I don't believe I mentioned anything specifically on whether to get 2x2 or 2x4GB
If he wants 2x4GB and doesn't mind a small sacrifice in overclockability & price-performance, that's fine

The reason 2x2GB are usually easier to OC is because of the binning & ICs being used; they are smaller and more developed.
