Question Regarding i5 2500K rig RAM.

Thread Starter
I wonder which 1 is better?

Team Xtreme Dark 2GB 1600Mhz (Two Pieces) OR Team Elite 2GB 1333Mhz (Three Pieces)

Here's my spec:
Proc:Intel i5-2500K 3.30Ghz
Mobo: Asrock P67 Pro3
GPU:HIS HD6950 2GB DDR5
PSU:Acbel IPOWER 85H 500W PCA009
HDD:Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 16mb

If I go with Team Elite 3x2GB 1333Mhz,I'll just need to add a little bit money.

I'm going to use Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate as my OS.

Thanks In Advance.

Ick... why did you get a motherboard that only supports dual channel?

If you wanted 3x kits you should have purchased a tri-channel motherboard ( has 6 memory slots instead of 4 )

Huh, I hadn't even noticed that. Asrock's site shows only four slots in the picture of the board.

I thought one drawback of SB was that you can't have triple channel?
Only for 1366 or something?
If your motherboard is dual channel (Which it probably is...)
It depends on what you do.
IF the timings are equal,
Gaming, web surfing, etc. 2x2 kit.
Others like video editing that require loads of ram, 3x2 kit.

I don't think SB has triple channel, so I think what would work best is a couple of 4 GB kits. I have such a setup myself on my i5 760 and 8 gigs of RAM is plenty to move around in.

Yes, as far as I know SB is only Dual Channel.

Go with the first ones. SB doesn't support three sticks (triple-channel). Also, you'll definitely need a more powerful PSU. I wouldn't run a PSU with anything less than 650W in your system. I advise you to get an 850W or at least a 750W PSU, just so you don't have to upgrade it when you're inevitably going to do an upgrade in the future. Get a known brand like Corsair or Antec.

1366 runs tri-channel, 1156 and 1155 run dual. However, there is little to no increase in speed for tri over dual. And, for nearly any computer nowadays, especially one for a custom gaming computer, it's best to have AT LEAST 4GB of RAM. I would recommend finding a 1600MHz RAM.

And, I would recommend getting a higher quality PSU as well. I havent even heard of Acbel. Might just be me, though.

PSU:Acbel IPOWER 85H 500W PCA009

Yeah, I would definitely NOT go with this.

Get a good name-brand PSU - Seasonic, Antec, XFX, Enermax or even OCZ or Cooler Master - in the 700-800W range.

I personally own a high-end Cooler Master PSU with Active PFC, for example, and I also have an XFX 850W PSU. This thread shows what comes with the Black Edition model.
