cpu backs down to 2ghz, at 56, why not 62?

Thread Starter
if the max temp is 62, why does my cpu clock down to 2.1ghz whilst doing the intel burn test, sort of feels like im cheating a stability test, as its doing half at 3.9 and then some at 2.1, its annoying, and its when it hits 56, it still has another 6 degrees to go before it gets dangerous? is there anyway i can move this limit higher, as i reckon it will settle at like 57/58.

core temp for the Thubans is like 10'c off btw
CPU TMP on the motherboard will get the most accurate readings

Well, your motherboard or some software is obviously turning the clock down at a certain temperature. Look around in the BIOS for something with the value '56C' assigned to it would be the first thing I'd do.

What program are you using? If you're using CoreTemp or RealTemp, yes. If you're using HWMonitor and looking at CPU temp instead of core temps, no.

No, this is the CPU's built-in overheat protection kicking in. No setting will change it.

If you are over 55C with an AMD chip you are in the danger zone. With watercooling you shouldn't be above that temperature anyways though, so you have another problem.
