Getting second 560Ti

Thread Starter
Hey all,

my current setup is in my sig, I was thinking about getting a P67 motherboard that supports SLI and get a second 560Ti. Some questions:

1) Do I have to get the exact same version as I have now? Or can I get another one from another brand like MSI? Do the core and mem speed have to be the same?
2) Should I in the meanwhile, also add another 2x2gig 1333Mhz ram to my system? Or is 2x2gig still fine? Is 1600Mhz memory better?
3) Wont my CPU be a bottleneck? Should I overclock it to like 3.8 or 4 Ghz?
4) Still have a traditional HDD (7200rpm, sata II, 16mb cache), will this be the main bottleneck during games?

Thanks for answering all my questions!

1) Any brand will do. If you get one with faster core and mem speeds it will downclock to the same as the other one, but just to be safe I wouldn't get one which was slower.

2)There is not a massively noticable performance difference between 1333MHz and 1600MHz and you may be able to overclock your current RAM to 1600MHz. I think that for the moment 4Gb is still enough.

3) I don't think the 2500k at stock will be a bottleneck, but no harm overclocking to to 4.0GHz

4) The HDD will make no difference to fps only load times and general responsiveness. An SSD is a good upgrade, but will not effect FPS.

its awful that you haven't oc'd your 2500k yet! get on it! them and the 2600k's are the best clockers around! will be better in games!

http://www.tones.be/shop_product.php?idx=107231 I got this memory atm. Would it be easily overclockable to ddr1600?

What do you mean with general responsiveness because of the SSD? When I play black ops now I sometimes notice some small stuttering with a low framedrop (from 91(max) to about 70 orso). It sometimes is annoying and it generally occurs during the first minute after the map was loaded.

I have to get a P67 mobo to overclock, is the MSI GD65 a good choice?

I can't really say if it will overcloxk easily because every stick is different. However, corsair ram tends to be of fairly high quality.

By general responsiveness I actually meant things like boot times, his long it takes to open programs like word and iTunes, and map load times. However, an SSD MIGHT take care of your stuttering... although I have no such problems with 2x Samsung F3 1tb RAID0. Which might be cheaper... Personally if that stuttering were the only thing i was looking to improve I would not spend the money on an SSD.

Then what should I spend my money on?
The only reason I can think of for the stuttering in the beginning is the HD that is still loading into my RAM and vRAM or my 4 gigs of RAM being not enough. Since my brother has an i7 computer and a faster hard drive (not an SSD though) and the stuttering is much less so i think it's related to my HD... It's some basic WD 320gig 16mb cache 7200rpm hard drive...

I don't know for sure tho

No point looking to overclock RAM 1333 is fast enough, only thing I would try is lower the timings... also 4GB is plenty for gaming.

Its the other way around for me, the slower card gets overclocked to the faster cards speeds.

Just get the new motherboard and second GPU, you can overclock that 2500k a little on stock v-core...

As to your stuttering.. How full is the drive? Defrag? Anything running in the background? (antivirus etc)... Or mabye general network lag...

I think that if you are worried about your HDD you should just get a 1tb Samsung F3. Its a very fast drive and quite cheap too.
And TheReaperWaits might be right maybe the slower card will overclock. In which case I'd be careful because if you get pre-overclocked one it 'might' cause instability if you don't raise the voltage on the slower card.
And sorry about the URL it is supposed to be http://www.techradar.com/news/comput...3-ram-719466
