Well that changes things a little. If you're good with a solder iron then the caps should be pretty cheap at a radio shack, just make sure you get the right ones. You can get an after-market cooler for cheap on newegg to ensure this doesn't happen again. That option total cost will probably be around $20, or like the other person mentioned...$20 or so more you can get a new card with much better performance.

dear...thefearlesstiger

i have same problem but i have change capacitors and my 8600GT FATALITY workk fine .......
i suggest you that you must change these capacitors.....
you see the the value of capacitors
like 47(micro farad) and 16voltage buy the same value capacitor from market either you'll buy SOLID STATE capacitors or simple capacitors both will workk fine...

uve revived a dead topic but nontheless, i thank you for your input. i guess if i wanted to i could try and get new capacitors but at the moment, i dismantled the card a lil too much. ive taken out the fan from the heatsink, heatsink is broken so id need a new one on top of capacitor changing. Jamaica isnt so versatile on heatsinks and i have no way to buy online so the best thing to do, that ive decided on is to save up and buy an even better card. My eyes are on 6670/5670 (due to processor and psu limits)

So... you've been using the card like that for almost a year? How?
Don't forget though, if you decide to replace the caps and whatever caused the caps to blow in the first place isn't resolved, you'll just run into the same problem again. Find out what caused the faults that caused the caps to blow, and fix that first! thumb.gif

Unless of course you get a new card.

You should see some of the Dell PC's with busted caps just chugging along. Granted they won't last, but off they go, powering up and working.

Replace caps with same or like caps such as if it is 1.6v 1600 microferet then replace it with the same cap. Personally I prefer to go with a higher voltage same capacitance.

My OptiPlex GX 270 was probably one of them. That model was known for bad capacitors, but mine had the brands they used to replace bad ones in most spots, except the VRM area behind the CPU. They were bulged and leaking for like the one and a half years I used it or so? I never had a problem with it, oddly. It even had a Prescott (high power draw and hot running) in it at one point for a short while too.
