[Androidized] The $400 High-End Android Tablets Are Coming - Page 2

Books. Little games. Portability. Battery life greater then even a netbook. Cheap fun apps instead of full feature software. Minimal software conflicts due to the app process. They fill a SMALL market need. And if the market needs something, no matter how small, it gets filled eventually.
I think the problemis people expect too much from tablets. They are meant to be simple content CONSUMPTION devices with cheap "fun" games that are in no way extreme. If they made a GOOD tablet for ~$200 or less that wasn't a gamer or have any of this bloat BS but something that could browse, and be a media player basically... with a few extra fun things. If that were the case I'd be all over them. But instead they add too much crap, try to make it work like a computer, which it can't, and it fails... plus you have top pay Over $500...

Tablets need to stay tablets, and not try to be computers. This fad is getting out of control.

I think we need modular devices for this to work well. Until we have a "laptop" that splits into 2 parts, the screen being a tablet with regular tablet hardware inside and a "base" keyboard that has REAL computer hardware in it, and you know, some actual storage space.

Until then, I'll have my 2 desktops and 1 laptop. If we get what I want above, I could likely get rid of my laptop and 2nd desktop altogether. But with Tablets as they are now, its just a novelty. A very high priced useless novelty.

I give you the Ideapad U1. Of course, it hasn't been released yet :/

But this one has been released, and it's pretty close:

Does it have modular hardware for a tablet AND PC environment each with their own OS? If not, its useless. Also, whats the price? And the Spec's. Curious smile.gif

You saw it before my ninja...check out the ideapad U1.

Also, you really can't hate on Windows as a tablet environment until you try it. Unlike regular tablets you can easily use any input device you want, not JUST touch. There are tons of apps and add-ons that give it a lot better touch functionality (like objectdock, fences, grab-and-drag, and so on), and hell, you can replace the shell with anything you want. Hell, you can even run an android emulator. Right now I only have one PC, which is a Fujitsu Stylistic ST5112 slate, and it's frickin great:

1000x1000.jpg

At home I dock it and have a keyboard/mouse and everything else, and then when I go to class I use it as a slate and write notes on it with the Wacom digitizer (and all my textbooks are on it too).

I just want a tablet for reading PDF text books and comics. But I won't buy a tablet untill I can get one for under 400 that includes a memory stick slot and wireless charging.

The price/performance just isn't justified on a tablet for me yet, considering a tablet is designed to consume content, and companies want to make you pay for said content. So I can't see paying $500 or so for a device so limited, a device designed to milk money out of my pocket, when almost everything can be done on a PC or netbook faster, at a fraction of the cost.

Sure, tablets work for some, but its a fad right now pure and simple. I give it another year or two before we see REAL tablets actually WORTH buying. Right now, thats simply not the case.

You can have 2 monitors on your laptop? Hax.

Tablets are meant for ON THE GO browsing, not for when you're sitting at your desk.
