So I can't see paying $500 or so for a device so limited, a device designed to milk money out of my pocket, when almost everything can be done on a PC or netbook faster, at a fraction of the cost.

Sure, tablets work for some, but its a fad right now pure and simple. I give it another year or two before we see REAL tablets actually WORTH buying. Right now, thats simply not the case.

I agree - when the ipad was released my first thought was "if it drops to ~$150 next year I'll buy it". But nope, Apple went and created an ipad 1.1 instead of an ipad 2, so the first one's used price didn't drop any.

But no a tablet PC is a completely different animal, and you can get decent ones as low as $250 on ebay (like a Core2 ULV one). And you even have convertible ones, where they're laptops with a screen that swivels around to turn it into a tablet. Either way, they're very worth it.

No. Tablets are awesome. If you WANT one, and can AFFORD one, BUY one.

You must not have bothered reading the post I was replying to. He said that he though that browsing on a tablet being more enjoyable that browsing on any computer including a desktop. I was simply talking about how much there is that you can do while browsing on a desktop as compared to a tablet. For me a tablet can not provide a full web browsing experience.

I was so skeptical of tablets, till I got one for real cheap on. Craigslist day of ipad 2 release. Got it for 240 with a case and an iPod from some apple fanboi drooling for a new one..

They are incredibly for what I use it for. Child can play with it on long trips, it has internet access nearly everywhere I go..

Honestly, I was pretty stunned by how useful it is. Once I jail broke it, it got even better with apps like ScummVM and IDOS, which lets me play old school classics easily.

Wow, hadn't heard about this until you posted it. That thing looks awesome... Very well may be my first tablet depending on it's full price with the keyboard dock.

Yes. Nook Color is pretty good IMO.
I own one, and am turning it into an Android tablet running Cyanogenmod 7 (Gingerbread based) stable release.

I should say I am impressed with the performance.

Have you ever used one? I doubt it, and the average consumer isnt as picky as you.
