hi there :
i have the GIGABYTE 870A board and i need to know if i can crossfire cards with it cause although it has 2 GPU slots but i have read on some review site that it (do support 2 GPU but NOT Crossfire)

frankly this is my first build , i have never used 2 GPUs before and i`m not sure if i do 100% understand what Crossfire means

so can some one help me please

I don't think this board supports CrossfireX even at 16x-4x
post #5 of 7
I have the GA-870A-UD3 and it does support crossfire at 16x/4x. I have 2 5770s crossfired. However the second pcie slot uses up the rest of the pcie bandwidth so the pcie x1 slots will not work while using crossfire.

There is some performance loss with only 16x/4x bandwidth compared to 8x/8x or 16x/16x but it depends on the application and the gpus (in your case 5830s).

Also if you have not already done so I would recommend the Enzotech MST-88 mosfet heatsink, especially if you are overclocking your x6. It fits perfectly over the mosfets and provides good cooling.

I am also not sure if you PSU will be able to handle CF 5830s with an overclocked x6.

Well there's your answer. Closest I've done is GTX 460 + 8600GT (as physx)

ahhhhh............i was thinking about buying a sound card X-Fi forte (uses the PCIe slot) doing so as you say i cant use 2 GPUs

so what do you recommend for new MoBo
(i`m not really into CPU OC and i really need to get a sound card)
so any board to do so even without on board sound?
