New to real water cooling, suggestions for first build

post #1 of 22
Thread Starter
I am planning on getting my first water cooling loop at the end of this month, now i have been reading a lot, checking stores and comparing prices but there is such a load of information, its overwhelming!

My situation is as follows:

I would like a water cooling kit, to start with only CPU since i still need to replace my current GPU. It would be nice if i could add a GPU waterblock later on as soon as i got the new GPU though.

I am using a HAF 922 case and my budget allows me ~ €200

Now i do have a couple questions,

- 240 or 360 radiator? as far as i know i have to mod my case to fit a 360.. So would going for a 240rad for now (cpu only) and adding another 120rad in bottom of my case later (gpu as well) be the best option? and would it be a big step compared with my current H50 on a 4.5Ghz i5 2500k?

- What set should i go for? I have been reading good things about:

* EK-KIT H3O - Supreme LT240 (or the more expensive HF240) - 159.00€
http://www.ekwaterblocks.com/shop/ki...me-lt-240.html
* EK-KIT H3O - Supreme LT360 - 175.00€
http://www.ekwaterblocks.com/shop/ki...me-lt-360.html
* XSPC X2OKIT750 RASA Dual WaterCooling Kit - 164.00€
http://www.xs-pc.com/products/waterc...ercooling-kit/
* XSPC X2OKIT750 RASA Triple WaterCooling Kit - 195.00€
http://www.xs-pc.com/products/waterc...ercooling-kit/

Or any other kit on the market perhaps?
What do you guys suggest with a budget of around 200€ / 220$? Keeping in mind i want to add a GPU later on.

I would get the RS240 kit, it will serve you the best. As far as performance on that CPU goes, I don't know what voltage you are at right now but you should be able to hit 5.0 with the new cooler (on <1.45V).

Thanks for your reply, RS240 and add another 120 rad later on to include GPU waterblock? Will the pump of the RS240 be able to handle that?

Right now i am at 4500Mhz, 1.350v, ~65c. Tried to push it further but couldnt really get it stable around 4.8/5.0Ghz, cpu seems to be quite "stubborn", it needed more then 1.45v. Didnt went on higher voltage as temps would raise too much.

The rasa kit pump will easily handle all of that, don't worry.

Nice, thanks for the help so far. Some good fans with enough pressure and not too loud, Gentle Typhoons AP-14/15s? I am using them on my h50 at the moment and i am quite happy with them. Or are there better fans out now days in combination with the rasa kits?

The AP fans will work fine using push/pull on your 240 rad. If you are having both the processor and the graphics card on the same loop a 360 rad is really what you want though. Should be fine if you add another 120 rad.

Thats something i want later on yes, but for now i would like to stick to CPU only, untill i got my new GPU. A 240 + 120 rad would be much easier to fit for me in my HAF922 i think.

What about the fittings/barbs that come with the rs240 kit? stick to the clips or go for screw ones?

- XSPC X2OKIT750 RASA Dual WaterCooling Kit
- 4x Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm x 25mm Fan - 1450 RPM
- 1x Feser Aqua Non Conductive Ultra Pure Water - 1000 ml
- 2m PrimoChill PrimoFlex PRO LRT Tubing 7/16"ID 5/8" OD with 3/32" Wall - White
- 4 way Fancontroller

Should do then job then?

Whoa, man, for your first water cooling setup, you're going a bit too far. Why not stick to something simple like the Corsair H35? They're a rare design that're easy for beginners like your precious self.

I ment my first real water cooling build. I currently use a Corsair H50 but with all due respect, i dont consider it a real water cooling solution. I need something more powerfull.
