ATI 5870 1GB GSOD -Tried RMA - Help needed! - Page 2

Possibly a BIOS update for the GPU may fix this. When I first got my Gigabyte 5870 it had an issue with the 2D clocks that was fixed when I updated the BIOS. While I know it's probably not the same issue that you are having since it seems to happen for you in games, it's definitely worth a shot, IMO.

Check XFX's website for your GPU's download section and see if there is a BIOS update.

The motherboard is the 1155 Sandy Bridge supporting types that are currently under recall from all the individual brands, Asus, MSI, Gigabyte etc. I've received the postage sticker for mine and can send it off at any point but I'm being stubborn and I'm trying to solve it before sending it off. The issue is a 'cougar point' issue and not much has been disclosed about it, apart from them saying that the SATA 6GBPS ports on the board had a possibility of degrading over time. Now ASUS put two extra 6GBPS ports on their board (the one I have) which they say are not affected at all. Originally I had my HDD and GPU plugged into the affected ones but recently I system wiped and plugged them into the ASUS added ones to no avail.

There's two BIOS updates on there, both for my card. One is regarding a 'revised fan speed profile' and the other is a 'USB stick format and guide'. Do you recommend me updating with these, and if so which do you think is the best way to put it on, ASUS AI suite or..? Its the first time I would be doing it so I'm a bit of a novice in that area.

Theres two ASUS BIOS updates on their site. I'm at version 1204, and theres one for 1305 and 1502.

The USB Stick Format Guide" is probably just a guide to show you how to prepare a USB stick with the new BIOS on it, and then how to update it that way. My Gigabyte card had a program called @BIOS that flashed the BIOS from within Windows. It was actually quite easy.

I'm not familiar with XFX cards and software, so I'm not sure how you actually get the BIOS on there. Perhaps a member with experience in this matter can help get it worked out for you.

I think ASUS E-Z flash is my best bet, going to update now.

Updated my BIOS to versions 1305 and then 1502 but I don't really know how to flash my ATI BIOS update I downloaded from XFX. I have a formatted USB stick, am I supposed to use EZ flash with it?

Yes but it only tells me how to update the Asus BIOS with EZ-flash, not anything to do with the graphics.

Um... but isn't your card an XFX? I'm saying get the update from there and try and/or find the update info.
