I know my vCore is a bit high there, but my chip really needs 1.38-1.4v around 4Ghz. I dont have a magic chip that is 4Ghz stable off 1.3vcore. It's an E0 1.25VID too. Maybe because its an ES (Engineer Sample) its wonky.
Yep, you know deep inside the answer to your own question. It's not the motherboard; it's the CPU.
The Core 2 Duo and Quad 45nm normally scale well up to 4 Ghz, but from there on it's no longer linear; you have to increase the voltage more for a minimal increase in clockspeed. You can read the Core 2 Quad QX9650 review over at Anandtech to get an idea.
You can get lucky and get an excellent chip, or in your case you get a little less lucky and get a very good chip.Edited by tpi2007 - 4/16/11 at 3:35pm
