I have tried various Ref settings, always setting VVT back at 1.2v and then adjusting. My current setting seems to be within the stable range.

I will try NB Skew.
My Q9650 can make it to 4.2GHz at about 1.41 V-core at full load. This is Prime95 Rock stable. However, going further is almost impossible, no matter the V-core. Your CPU is the Dual variant of this Quad. So yeah, you've probably hit a 'wall' on air, just like I have...

Set the CPU and MCH reference voltages to manual and tweak the heck out of them. (There's a certain way to do it -- I don't remember off the top of my head)

That's what did it for me when I was struggling to get 4 and 4.4Ghz stable.

He has been trying to adjust REFs. The problem is there are other things wrong with his OC that adjusting REFs wouldn't cover.

First off, as mentioned, his Performance Enhance should have been [Standard] not [Turbo].
Second, his memory timings are on AUTO but his Strap is set to 2.4B. The B strap is for <400FSB, in general.
Third, I don't think you need anywhere near 1.44vCore but you probably need a tad bit more MCHCore, maybe 1.32 or 1.34v.
Fourth, your RAM only needs 1.8 to 1.9v. You shouldn't have had to bump it as you weren't really much past it's Nominal rating.

Work out the stuff that is definitely suspect before you worry about REFs. You shouldn't need to adjust any REFs till you start going north of 500FSB.

I don't know if this will help you, but I kind of documented my attempts at getting north of 4GHz on this thread. Read through it, there may be something helpful there for you.

Standard or Turbo makes no difference. I tried under 1.4vcore but it won't boot. I don't have a magic chip. My RAM is rated 1066MHz @ 1.9v so its voltage is not far off. I tried the "D" strap and it made no difference. I used the "B" strap so I could use x2.4 to get my RAM higher. I tried higher MCH voltage to no effect. I tried leaving Ref's at Auto. I have completely redone the OC 3 times. I'm not sure what you really think is way off but I've tried changing basically everything mentioned so far. My system won't boot if I don't set the MCH manually over 460FSB or so.

All those were tried individually.

It just ran 6 hours and 37 minutes @ 485x8.5 in Prime Large without an error. I don't really think its unstable...

At that speed it's probably good, but Prime can go on for hours without errors and then in a real game in can show you it's not stable.

Try running a heavy duty game just to be sure.

I played a little BlackOps, but I've been getting crashes since the last patch, so its hard to gauge on that one. I tried to play BC2 but I couldn't log in. Lol. Tough times... I will try to play Homefront and hopefully BC2 tomorrow (well, later today as its 2am here.)

I'm tempted to try 520/530x8.5 just to see if it is some issue with the x9 multiplier.

Sounds like you have probably hit the OC wall.

I'm at that point with my i7 930 on a P6X58D Premium. I can't get it to even load windows at 4.7GHz no matter what vcore I use (or any other voltage tweaks for that matter). However I can do 4.6GHz perfectly bench stable (for HWBOT benchmarking).

I guess its just one of those things. Although it doesn't stop me trying to find a way to hit 4.7GHz+ haha

So just keep tweaking the settings. Sooner or later you will either succeed or give up due to hitting the wall of the CPU.

Good luck!

Yeah, I think so too. I will try to see where it tops out and tweak as best I can at that speed. I just hoped I overlooked something. :/ . This UD3 has a lot of options, even compared to my P5Q Deluxe. It was a little overwhelming at first. . Its not too bad, but it was weird seeing things named differently than ASUS.
