Friends new build for Christmas?

Hey, my friend is going to be upgrading from his old rig. He currently has a Q6600, SLIed 8800GTs, 4 GB DDR2-800, some nvidia chipset, etc. Served him quite well for 4ish years and he is looking on grabbing a new rig around Christmas. His budget is going to be around 2'600 Canadian.

We will be scavenging some parts from his old rig. We might keep his DVD drive; though I can't remember if it is a SATA or not. He'll also keep his 1TB Carniver Black, 320 GB for Movies, windows 7 OS, and his monitor. He is also not intersted in upgrading down the road either and also wanting to keep this rig for the same length of his last one. This will causes issues, as his rig is going to be overkill for his current monitor and he doesn't want to upgrade it. His monitor is an old Samsung 22in 1680x1050. Which is alright, but what I currently have set up for him is going to be overkill.

This is what I was thinking:

Storm Scout Case - $109.99
Gentle Typhoon 120mm - $44.97 (3 of them)
ASUS P8P67 Deluxe Rev 3 - $239.99
Radeon HD 6950 1GB- $779.97 (3 of them, will be unlocking to 6970)
Coreâ„¢ i7-2600K Proc - $309.99
Pro Flight Headset - $129.99 (just a place holder, don't know exactly what headphones to pick up yet. But will be spending around 129.99 for them.)
Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-E - $99.99
Dominator DHX+ 2GB x 4 - $159.98
1000W Strider Gold Silver Stone - $184.99 (might change)
6G Version 2 Mechan... - $99.99 (mechanical blacks, but he might like the blues better)
Destructor Gaming MousePad - $19.99
1TB Caviar Black 72... - $89.99 (slab them into raid-1 or raid-0, depending on how intel and windows like raid-1 on intel raid controllers)

Sub Total - $2,269.83

By the time he gets this Ivy Bridge and Bulldozer will be already released, and there would probably be loads of deals going on too. I'm also thinking he should grab a SDD for awesome boot times and maybe a few neccessity programs. If priced right, might also get some 2.1 speakers for him too.

Christmas is 7 months away, that's a lifetime in cpu's. None of us have any idea what BD, SBe or IB will bring or how much they will cost.

Wait until a month before Christmas, then start looking.

Ya, but some things won't change. Tips would be helpful or things that I should look for would be appreciated.

Just wait. MANY things can come out in 8 months. 8 months ago, we didn't have Sandy bridge, Nvidia 5xx, AMD 6xxx, and most of the SSDs out that we have today. And i'm only pointing out all of the big things. I can't remember if we had an 80+ gold power supply out yet 8 months ago... i cant rememeber. but, just wait to look.

That is true. Or, wait till Christmas is close, then there will most likely be more money available in the budget, then go nuts and get the best of EVERYTHING!!!
