Does the sound card make any difference ingame?

Hello

I'm a serious counter-strike 1.6 gamer, wonder if a sound card would make a real advantage in game.

A soundcard with volume level'er and decent headphones should be an advantage over onboard, especially with lower amounts of players - nothing beats amplified foosteps.

By "volume level'er" do you mean something like Creative's Smart Volume Management?

I think so, can't remember what Creative called it, its SVN on Asus cards, not had a Creative for a while. It just amplifies quiet sounds when there's not much else going on.

Yeah, it's "SVM" on my Titanium. It brings the lower sounds up, and limits the loudest sounds "to avoid large volume fluctuations during playback"

Any standalone Sound card is better than onboard
and since your are using headphones why not getting an X-Fi card, the CMSS-3D will gave you greater positioning in FPS along side with Crystallizer they really nice

and why not getting a 100$ (or less i think) Creative Xtreme Gamer
