Should I buy this used Ikea Galant?

Thread Starter
Found this on Kijiji for $60, should I grab it? It retails for $199 at Ikea here so I think it's a decent deal. I'm looking to get rid of my tiny corner desk and grab a nice long table so I can put my sig rig on it.

Here's the pic the guy posted:

And even if the tabletop is shot, the legs and connector can be mounted to a new top. biggrin.gif

Wow that setup looks awesome dude! You've pretty much convinced me, I am really tempted to grab it tonight haha...just gotta find a ride to pick it up now.

Edit: I hope it's not too scratched up though...how much do you think a new top costs? I Couldn't find it on Ikea.

It's a SOLID desk, decent. If you're planning a future 4+ monitor setup, i'd advise a newer multi leg desk. However it's a great design, simple, EASY to wire around, and so forth by the looks of it. Go for it man (my opinion).

Alright thanks man. I think I'll grab it, but would it be able to support the weight of my sig rig? Mine is sitting carpet with a slab of wood elevating it so that's one of the main reasons I want to get it.

The table is ok, but I don't feel very confident having the computer case on the same table. You know, vibration and stuff (affects the HDD's). I have my desk with the monitor and keyboard and mouse, and sound system, and nothing else besides papers and CD's and DVD's. The case is on a separate small table.

Having the inkjet on the same table like IEATFISH, may even look very nice, but is even worse. An Inkjet normally makes a lot of vibration when printing. His must be a nightmare. I've got a Canon MP640 and have it on a separate stand.

You can get the tabletops at Ikea, I'm not sure of the web link. You can also throw on an oak (or other) door, custom cut piece of plywood, etc. It is just a frame that screws from below into the table surface.

Yeah, our entertainment center is there perpendicular to my desk.

It is true that the inkjet does give it a bit of vibration but unless I'm printing a ton of pages, it isn't too bad. It has actually been moved inside the entertainment center now to make space for my other monitor. The table can be a bit wobbly but much less than I would expect just looking at it.
