XFX HD6770 fiasco - Page 13

I rarely just write-off a brand - but XFX has really earned it for AMD/ATI users IMO.
First they really botched up the 4890s and everyone was like "oh they're new here give 'em a break."

Then their godawful PCBs and service continued on with the 5xxxs.
Now here we are on the 3rd gen of cards since they've been here and NOTHING has changed.

I honestly don't see how just switching (by default once Nvidia dropped them) to AMD/ATI could be the sole cause of problems for them.
There are some serious flaws with them as a company - in general.

Exactly!

By the way, scatteh316, why don't you underline the part where I said that OEM PC makers have the drivers, because they were given the drivers by AMD for that purpose only. New PC's come with Widows 7.

AMD didn't give retail drivers to XFX yet, because XFX are not supposed to sell the cards at retail yet. XFX, knowing this, didn't put any drivers on the CD, because, they simply don't have any. At most they will have Windows 7 drivers.

Since new OEM PC's come with Windows 7, there are only tailored drivers for Windows 7, and not for Windows Vista and XP, like the retail box of XFX says. That is why the card is for OEM only thus far, while drivers don't exist for older platforms.

XFX made a big mistake. Period.

How hard can it be for you to understand logic ?

No, not really. It's listed under the "OEM solutions" tab

THis is all bad, and I hope it forces XFX to start being honest and provide better CS to the users. AMD also needs to make sure that their vendor agreements are being stuck to. They must be turning their cheek to this stuff right now and letting companies buy their designs to make the money and let the chips fall where they may. XFX and AMD are going to need to fix this ASAP.

The summary you made in topics is excellent!

Should prevent once and for all any sort of more or less deliberate misunderstandings.

I wonder if you could flash its bios to something else???

There is a risk to it, as the HD6770 is not 100% a rebadged HD5770; it features HDMI 1.4a and the HD5770 features HDMI 1.3. So you could end up with a card that does not work properly, or at all. And since there is no dual Bios to play with in these mid-range cards, you don't get a chance to correct the possible mistake.

Anyway, the OP, or anyone else who bought the card, is not supposed to do that, and it would clearly void the warranty.

so did you guys take the card back sense it doesnt have any Driver support for Vista????

I do not believe that i have ever owned a XFX Product, i have always stayed with Antec, Corsair, HIS, EVGA, Crucial and a few others i cant think of right now. My brother has bought XFX and i have told him about their issue and such, but he doesn't care i guess.

Good luck getting your Step-dad a video card.
