I must say I'm puzzled by the recent XFX stories... they used to be a premium brand, what the hell happened to them?

So XFX made a retail package for an OEM only card and sent it to retail stores ?

AMD is going to like that when it hears that.

It's XFX's fault. 100% fault. I've just checked their site, no such thing as an HD6770 for retail, so what they are trying to do with this covert operation of sending "non existent" cards to retail is business suicide.

Is it me or is XFX going down ?

They no longer manufacture motherboards - the latest they have is a single X58 model; they no longer carry Nvidia cards - the latest are the GTX2xxx series, so they are now left with AMD cards and power supplies and accesories.

That can eventually explain their desperate behaviour to make sales.

I have to get on board with Phaedrus on this one... BoreBuy is going downhill fast. Circuit City went out here and they no longer have the competition so the area demand they sell the consumers are NOT met.
Any issues are resolved with the Corporate line of C*%T and they go into "make it hard for them..." The customer will eat it and move on...
They sell items on the website and they say the store has it in stock, but when you go to the store that day guess what, that's been discontinued, or no we cannot get that any longer, etc.. etc..
I have spent tens of thousands at their store and over the years they have less and less customer satisfaction, Hell it isn't even satifact...
The managers sat there and asked our concerns and we explained, then they introduced some snot nose 25 year old manager that went right into the corporate line of talk and me and wife looked at each other and then told him, This line of talk is WHY your store and service is failing.. all talk and no service.

If you put the add online,, Shoot me. The stinking computer were designed to reflect weather the product is in stock or not. Real time web based. but to lead you on to get you into the store and then fenegle you to buy something just sux..

We just told them flat out you lost mega money just from us..

We are over them, if we buy it from there is is a throw away item only..

Chow!

Stop being an apologist.
ive owned 6 cards from xfx ranging from 4850 to a 5870 xxx edition and not one of there cards have ever gone bad on me or have i ever had problems with there support. I think xfx is ok...yes they make card revisions sometimes but hey its a buisness they cant be giving away 500$ gpu's for 300$ with a different bios. lol

Maybe there was a change in management?

It's not unheard of for companies to go sour when management changes for the worse.

What in the HELL are you talking about ?!?!

Phaedrus bought a card that XFX put in a retail box. That card is an HD6770 which is supposed to be OEM only. As of now there is not a single word from AMD other than "It's an OEM only card".

Besides, you are not obliged to have Internet access to install a card's drivers. XFX had the obligation to put a driver CD in the box, so you can start using the card right away. They didn't. I have yet to meet a GPU vendor that does not include a driver CD with a card.

XFX screwed up. Twice. First by selling at retail a card they are not authorised to; second by not even providing drivers. Period.

My XFX 5750 had a driver CD in its box. So did the 5770 a friend of mine bought. If they could not obtain a driver to place on a CD, they should have had the sense to not sell the product.

Perfect way to put it. They did in fact sell a card that had ZERO chance of working on a computer without internet access, and thats not listed as a specification. FAIL by XFX on this one.

I still say contact AMD and the BBB about this issue. Hopefully BB or XFX can get some fines. Wouldn't it be fun to know you caused a multi-billion dollar corp to get fined? Do it!
