As far as I know it isn't due for retail release. It's an OEM card, for use in pre-built systems only. That was the only reason they didn't get flak for rebranding the 5770. Once they take it to retail, all bets are off and they're fair game (if you'll pardon the mixed metaphors).

I know. My point was that AMD has done this crap before, cards making it into the wild without any driver support. Though I've not heard of it happening on Win before.

They don't support Windows Server at all, as I found out the hard way when I tried to turn Server 2008 R2 into a free Windows 7.

Well, actually, AMD does not have a brilliant track record with drivers as of late.

The HD69xx series had to work with a Hotfix driver in the first few weeks. No WHQL drivers available at launch, which is just unnaceptable, even more considering that they had released Catalyst 10.12 two days before, without support. Talk about having a properly planned schedule.

THe HD68xx series also had to do with a series of Catalyst 10.10 hotfix drivers at launch. They launched 10.10, 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d, and 10e in a matter of days.

10a alone was to correct the simple fact that the 10.10 drivers that came with the driver CD with the cards would freeze under Windows XP.... the rest being bug fixes and performance improvements and enabling Morphological AA, and correcting MAA's bugs, etc. And then people were left waiting when Catalyst 10.11 came out, simply because those drivers did not support the HD68xx series. So people who wanted the cards to work according to advertised, had to do with the Hotfix a,b,c,d or e flavour that worked best for them, instead of having a properly certified driver.

The trouble of using a Hotfix driver is just that AMD takes no responsibility for when something goes wrong. They even changed their disclaimer at that time to make it less clear what their responsibility was. What is troubling is that under the umbrella that they care about fixing drivers fast, they get away with releasing hotfixes for things they should have tested before.

AMD fans defended that that's because of the driver schedule approval, and etc, but all I know is it smells to bad planning and incomplete driver testing before release. If they needed to release 5 hotfixes in a matter of days, something must not be right with their testing.

Phaedrus, I've heard people managed to install those drivers under Windows Server. You have to do some file editing, of course. If you really want to do it, it's doable.

So if 6770's are currently being used in prebuilt PCs there is probably driver support for it...

And yet another nail in the coffin for XFX for me. I knew they were bad, but now this just adds another nail to it all.

And this is why I will never get a card with XFX on it, EVGA is better by default due to the extra letter in the name.

You're right. It isn't supposed to be for retail release.
AMD's page says it's OEM only.

The fact that it's the same as the 5770 (Well, aside from HDMI 1.4a support) is made quite clear too.

Yeah, and you can't even get to the 6770 and 6750 from any other page on that part of the site, it isn't in the menu. You have to be linked in/enter the URL manually/google it.

So...who's the smart worker that decided to ship out/make 6770s?
