You can still use a subwoofer as long as it has the proper connections:


just run speaker cable from the amp to the sub and from the sub to the speakers.

Craigslist my friend. I just got a cheap/ free setup. Just about any old 2 channel receiver with some decent vintage tower speakers will sound better than a cheap 5.1 crap.

When it comes to just having an older receiver like mine it has 100w x2 so that means only 2 speaker(powered sub if you got one) So I am a believer in having speakers able to reproduce the sounds accurately. That means 3way towers with 10"-15" woofers. It wont it do the ground rumbling frequency of a sub but you will be impressed.

what is your friends current setup? Bad sound doesnt mean junk equipment all the time poor setup a main contributor. maybe he just need a 100usd addition or adjustment to his current package
