What's a good card for playing HD movies on a 50"? - Page 2

Well if he were to use the Intel GMA exclusively then he should actually get the K version because it includes the Intel HD 3000 as opposed to the HD 2000. What I would do though is keep the 2500k and get a P67 (just so you don't lose the ability to overclock, even if you don't think you will its nice to have and at the very least will help resale value while not costing more than about $30 extra) and then get a small descrete graphics card like the 520 or whatever the best cheap one to get for just playing HD movies is.

I like the way you think. You never know when you might want to overclock.

So even the cheapest card does HD right?

I'm not really the person to ask regarding low end video cards and things like the best one for media playback and post processing etc. but as far as I know yes all modern cards can do 1080p. The only thing I can base this off of though is the fact that I used to have a 4350, which was basically the least powerful and cheapest card available 18 months ago, and it could almost do 1080p and could do 720p without a problem, so I'd imagine anything stronger than a 4350 would be able to do it.

Let me try and find you a useful link regarding good cards for media playback.

EDIT: Here give this a read, it's a quick look at the 6450. In it they mention that while they haven't run it through the full gamut of their media test they expect good results from it. One downside of it is because it's brand spanking new it will be a little more expensive for what you get. In the article they link to their previous review of the gt 430 which has been out for a little while so it's price should have stabilized, and you can read that review to determine if it meets your criteria.

I didn't see anyone point out that the screen size doesn't matter, and that's the res that matters.

Resolution, not screen size.

Pretty much anything on the market that's new can play whatever you want.
The player you use may make the difference which hardware is being utilized.

I haven't seen any Z68 available yet, and haven't even heard a firm release date for them yet.

OP: before you ask Z68 is a 1155 socket chipset (just like p67) that can both overclock the CPU and still utilize the built in GPU on the chip, so it would be the best of bnoth worlds for you but like I said I haven't seen any yet.

I've read somewhere that the z68 wont be out until later this year. I wonder if it'll cost more than a p67 and a cheap gpu.

Basically what everyone is saying here. You dont need a videocard with that set up if you have onboard video. If not a ati 5750 could do just fine

Yeah, I get that. But if I get an h67 mobo, there are no overclocking abilities, but there's onboard video. Vice versa for the p67. And I can do both with a z68.
