Video files getting corrupted (not sure if this is the right place)

Thread Starter
I've got some video files in .mov format that were recorded with a video camera. The files work fine for a little, but anytime i copy them to a computer, after a few plays they start getting blocky in parts, and the audio kind of distorts. I figure somehow the files are getting corrupted, but i don't know what to do to prevent it. Does anyone know of an easy way, or know of something i'm doing wrong? All i've done is play and moved the files, i've never really messed with them or anything

EDIT: forgot to add that i've tried playing the files in both windows media player and vlc, they have the same issues

Defrag your HDD and uninstall and reinstall vlc. also try out GOM player and see if the corruption is still there. Also download DPC latency checker and report the avg and peak values.

What codecs do you have installed/what media player?

My computer isn't overclocked, and the camera can connect via usb, or through the sd memory. But i'm not watching the videos straight off of the camera, i copied them from the sd card to my desktop. so they're on my computer's hard drive.

I don't know of the codecs installed, but i've tried windows media player and vlc with whatever codecs they have originally. both show the same corruption on the videos. not all of the videos have it though

Sounds like either a bad cable or ram issues. Try running a ram diagnostic; you can get file corruption when copying with faulty memory. Screwed up some flac files that way a while back.

i haven't been able to check, but it could definitely be ram. My computer got messed up from a power surge from a storm, and the only thing i noticed was wrong before was i couldn't get audio to work. Now i've been having more problems though so i guess i'll have to test each piece of hardware separately.
