Good Quality?

Hey all. I know I ask a lot of questions here... (I'm very curious ;D) anyways

I got this card about 2-3 weeks ago. I love it. Runs everything maxed out. But my question is why is/was (it' deactivated now) it so cheap, compared to the other ones? I got it for 229.99/ free shipping. And the other ones are 280-550 (rofl ). Was this card not good quality or something? (I mean build) Thanks.

It's great quality, but it's discontinued because the HD 6950 replaced it.

For $229.99, you should have gotten the 6950 2GB. Noone would buy 5870 for over $200 price range anymore honestly. The Lightning is a great line of card, high quality build and components. However, i really wish you bought a 6950 2GB instead of a 5870 for $229.99.

The 6950 and 5870 aren't really that far off at stock speeds, actually. (Unless the 6970 is unlocked)

<5% difference @ stock speeds

Oh I know... But at the time (doesn't seem long but apparently it is in the electronics world! ) All the 6950's were around 250-290. And I was sort, kinda, really strapped for the $$$$$ . So I bought the 5870. Ehhhh Now I kinda wanna return it and get the 6950.. lol Would there be a performance increase?

Edit: Nevermind slowend answered my question!

If you can overclock your 5870 to ~ 1 GHz, keep it. It will give the 6950/6970 a run for the money. Wait until at least the HD 7000 series, or GTX 600+.

Use Catalyst 11.4 beta (March 23 one). It gives significant performance boosts to 5000/6000 series cards.

What i was saying is that he could have gotten the 6950 for that price even if there's no difference @ stock speeds. The 6950 should have better driver support nowadays and has more chance to get its performance increases thru new drivers. Newer tech with better re-sell value.
