Still need to update with pictures...

All computer parts are in.

Will place order for sound monday-tuesday. Plan is for 1 10" sub (possibly this but I may just build a box and save the $200 extra bux) + amp.

Placing order from MP3 car tonight....
I need to place one more order for cables/peripherals.
I'll get 2-4 USB 3.0 m-f to mount USB ports in dash. Maybe one of these... http://store.mp3car.com/ProductDetai...M-052&CartID=4
Can't think of what else too add... maybe backup camera?

Suggestions?

Pioneer you would be proud...

I've spent the last 2 days considering audio (instead of just passing the buck on that one). My budget has jumped from 500 to 1500 and everywhere in between. Finally settled on 2 JL 10W3v3-2 and Rockford Fosgate t500-1bd.

I have a tiny amount of space under the back seat and considered going low profile subs, but judging by this box 2007-Up-New-Body-Style-GM-Extended-Cab-Dual-Downfire-Box.html I should be able to make a box that works. (hopefully!)

Came to ~$600 for subs and amp with shipping to Alaska! Not too shabby--pretty close to my budget and a good addition to the stock bose system.

I will run the bass output for the motherboard directly to the new amp.
Hopefully the stock HU isn't powering any of the bose speakers (I think they are all powered off a separate amp...) and hopefully the bose amp has inputs I can tap into with RCA off mb audio outputs. We'll cross that bridge when I get there... whats a good cheap amp to replace the bose one with if necessary? I think the bose system is 2 front, 2 rear, 2 tweeter and a small sub in the center console. Not sure resistance on any of the speakers.

ANYWAY!

I still need to do pictures, but stupid busy lately. I will definitely get before pics of the truck and hopefully lots of pics of the install.

Will order monitor, gps, and psu from mp3car.com unless I find another store in the next few days. I keep going back and forth on transflective, and on 10" v 7".
Sound will sort itself out.

This thread desperately needs pictures so will update when parts start coming in.
Have you got the monitor selected yet? I have given this considerable thought in the past myself. I found this one to be ideal, available finished for direct insertion to double din.

Also, isn't that a lot of PC for a carputer?

Edit: Whoops, just noticed you'd ordered a monitor already.

That really is the big question...
I've run XBMC with 2k movies loaded on cheaper dual core systems, and it can hang for 4-5 minutes going into menus--that alone would be excuse enough for the processor I purchased, but add that I plan on keeping gps open on a separate desktop so I can flip back 'n forth, and use the pc to remote into client systems while on the road... I think it all helps justify the added cost for me.

So, for most people a zacate/atom/via m/n/p-itx build will be much cheaper, use less power and do a great job. But come on... this is OCN! MOAR POWA!

I personally like spending my money on having nice electronics and toys (truck, atv, boat, skis, bike, etc). Other people like jewelery, collecting stamps, securing their kids futures, and building bird houses.

...This post may be revised and used as a final thoughts piece linked back to the O.P.
Probably will help other people looking to build decide what all they need and see it doesn't have to be as costly as my selection to get great benefits of a carputer.

Your sound setup, while not my first choice, does get a solid thumbs up approval. Can't wait for pictures.

I don't have work tomorrow so I'll clean the truck out a little and shoot some before shots. Everything has been sitting on/under the back seat for 2 weeks because I've just been crazy busy.

Cool, I've never seen one of these projects so I'm interested to see where you're going to fit everything in
