3 580's 3gb or 2 6990's - Page 11

I'm tell you now, on the NZXT Phantom, there is no way you will fit 3 cards with water blocks. My dual SLI barely fits my watercooled 580'd and I certainly would use an 800D if I went tri or quad WC setups.

I can manage a single slot 450 GTS however for the bottom lane. (Provide I get one )

Edit: On a Maximus, you problem squeeze a 3rd WC card provide your PSU is low enough (height) for a 45 degree compression fitting

I don't have 200% scaling with my 470s, but I have 180% or better in everything I've played.

Am I doing it wrong?

Seems I hear a lot about scaling and how much better ATI is, isn't 200% for CF/SLI the theoretical max you can achieve?

Forgot to mention they will be under water.
Two 6990s on water will run well. Running 3 580s will need a mobo that has at least three x8 PCIe slots or you will choke the cards. Running two cards (6990s) at PCIe x16 or x8 will be fine. Also, you will need a top of the line PSU and case to house these monsters, LOL

two 6990s, get them on water

If he went 3x 6970s, it would be the same price and faster.
He's going to be running them under water, it would actually end up being more expensive after blocks. Also, the 6990 under water has been shown to clock over 1.1GHz, faster than 6970's can clock.

OP, you want 2 cards to fit them in your case and be more price efficient, get 6990 + 6970. It's a no brainer IMO. If you really want overkill get two 6990's, but I highly doubt it's necessary.

Edit: For clarification, he's using an NZXT Phantom, 3x 3GB 580's WC'd won't fit. With two cards, AMD wins hands down.

Its just how the GPU select the colors by blending the surrounding colors together, where in the MSAA and SSAA, it does the average unless you add the adaptive AA from nvidia/amd.
You select the color of the pixel, its the end result. The "blending and blurring" is just how.
Yes, I know that's why I said it's not all about colors. There's also a lot of geometry involved. Aside from the fact that supersampling algorithms as SSAA and MSAA require a lot of VRAM (pixel buffer) to store the extra pixels, it also needs a large Z-buffer and stencil buffer to store the geometrical details. After that the pixels (eventually texels) have to be mapped on the wireframe accordingly. These computational processes demand a lot of resources from the ROPs and also TMUs.

Rather simple choice. AMD can't get their stuff together when it comes to drivers. What is the point of having so much horsepower if you can't use it? History shows that AMD is always late to the game. With AMD you have to wait for the fix that will fix the fix of the hotfix!! I am running CFX 5870 XXX since they came out and AMD is still using me as a beta tester with their drivers.

GO NVIDIA. Better drivers and they actually take out beta drivers to fix issues faster than AMD. Nvidia fixed their multi gpu issues in Crysis 2, AMD did not. Look in the Crysis 2 thread, people with 6990s can't use them because of the flickering. A recipe for Epilepsy and AMD hasn't done anything worth mentioning to fix it.

Since I own a 6990 and 6970 in Crossfire with no issues, I can't see how this post is valid.
