Rift: How is it? - Page 2

Being an exact copy of a game and copying ideas from other games is completely different.

Everyone calls everything a WoW close, but those of us who have been around long enough know that WoW is nothing but an EQ clone.

Rift is fun. It is not a WoW clone, its just that many MMOs are very similiar because that is just what the majority of consumers like in their games. The only bad thing about Rift is the fact that it is VERY easy to get endgame. I played on release, and within 2 weeks of playing, I was level 44/50, playing about 3-4 hours for a few days at a time. The soul system is very interesting and allows you to do a lot of customization, but it still needs to be tweaked a little bit. There were still a few overpowered classes when I stopped playing.

I really do want to try it, but I never buy an mmo without playing the free trial first.

Tried out the free weekend. Kinda disappointed. It's a carbon copy of WoW mechanically, with extra customization. I played a rogue, specifically. Spam an ability to build combo points, then use a finisher. The abilities and finishers look like they were copy/pasted from WoW as well.

Graphics are great, and like I said, it has more customization. I'm sure the rifts are fun, too. Mechanically, though, it's almost identical.

Aren't nearly all MMO's typically the same though. Only MMO's that I tried last year that were different then the rest were Mortal Online and APB. One went bankrupt and the other one I haven't tried again since it doesn't have NA servers still

I play Rift, and having played WoW for like.. 5 years, I prefer Rift.

That being said, Rift is only better in graphics. It has the same dull system of quest grinding and dungeons. The PVP is fun. But it really doesnt being that much different to the MMO world.

It's the same old fantasy MMO.

I'm Fantasy MMO'd out. I'm ready for a sci-fi MMO. I wish theyd make a Mass Effect MMO.

to be fair, Rift has a much better character building mechanic. 8 souls to pick from resulting in entirely different builds.

Also the rifts are tons of fun.

So far the game is extremely well polished, no shortage of content, and the devs are actually fast about adding new content and fixing things.

I have 0 complaints about the game, it does everything it is trying to do extremely well. The only legitimate complaint someone can have is if they dont like mmo style combat.

Is it a wow killer, no, but it is of just as high quality and actualy better in many ways. This mmo will be around a long time. The extreme amount of content and polish, along with the dynamic content will keep this game going for a long time.

That's good to hear. As a Warhammer and Aion vet, I'm a little jaded on MMOs atm. I'm kinda feeling the itch again though since DA2 and Crysis2 haven't held my attention like I thought they would...

I might give Rift a go, though I'm really looking forward to GW2.

I rather like rift, it feels to me like they've taken some of the great features of our favourite MMO's and compiled it together in a very polished, visually stunning MMO.

Rift certainly does not reinvent the wheel but it does hold its ground very solidly
