My H50 is higher temp then stock cooler help;(

Thread Starter
Howdy yall,

I recently replaced my stock cpu cooler for a beastly h50, and it doesn't really show much of a difference; (room temp when testing both was the same)

H50 (barely nothing opened)

H 50 (sc2 max graphics)

old cpu cooler (barely nothing opened)

my fan directions
http://img810.imageshack.us/i/img0198d.jpg/ (try and zoom in if u can)

my build:
Corsair HX-650 Power Supply
CoolerMaster CM 690 II Advanced with Window
Corsair Force Series 60GB SSD
VTX3D Radeon HD6970 2GB
Intel Core i5 2500K
Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4-B3 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3

Is there anything i can change to improve the temp?
Is the temp good enough to overclock to 4ghz?

Unloaded temps are irrelevant, put your PC under stress and you'll see the difference.

and those temps are fine anyway.

Edit:

btw, try using "prime 95", "linx" or "intel burn test" to stress your cpu, they'll be more reliable for testing than sc2

This.

Welcome to OCN!

Perhaps it wasn't seated that well? What TIM did you use? The TIM that comes already applied to the H50 is quite nice.

Don't worry about those temps...they're fine. I've OC'ed my AMD Athlon II x4 630 @3.5ghz w/c are known to be hot and I usually got around 24*C to 31*C on air...so don't worry about it...

Idle temps doesn't tell the full story.
To make sure its working, run a CPU stress test (prime96 or linx) for 10 minutes and see.

Also, another issue with high temps, is incorrect install, not enough pressure, or excessive pressure on the mounting.

lol you're concerned about those temps? My CPU idles around 30c on an H50 (2600k@4.3ghz) and during gaming gets to around 50c. Prime95 will bring it up to 65-70c.... Your temperature is more than fine.

One consideration of waterclocking is that idle temps tend to be higher than air, because the heating capacity of water stores heat better, so it translates to higher idle temperatures, but it'll keep high-load temperatures lower, and temperatures last longer than with an air cooler, where they disappear right away once the heat is removed.

I idle around 38 lol, but never go past 55 load.

As said before, idle means nothing, only when you stress your computer will you see the difference.
