I have been wanting a headset for a while now, but I am not sure what I should buy. I will use it for my Xbox 360 and pc games, movies and music (what else would I use them for biggrin.gif). My budget is $250-$280 so I want a pair that will own biggrin.gif. What I had in mind was the Astro A40 2011 Edition or the Sennheiser PC 360. I read reviews about the bad bass on the old astro a40s, but according to their website, they fixed that issue. One thing I don't like about the Sennheiser PC 360 is that you can't remove the mic. Is there a big difference between these 2 headsets? Can anyone list any other recommendations? Thanks in advance.

That seems to be the recommended route for those that want worthwhile headphones + mic on the 360, while not having a worthless headset for the PC.

I would add [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-Pro-80-Closed-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0016MNAAI"]Beyerdynamic DT 770[/ame] into the list if one wants huge bass reserve and good isolation, which is most likely what gamers are after. [ame="http://www.amazon.com/AKG-K271MKII-Closed-Circumaural-Headphones/dp/B0016MOC28/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1303032002&sr=1-1"]AKG K 271 MKII[/ame] are very well isolating cans too, but quite neutral so the bass might come across as too little for most.

But yes, consider a separate microphone and headphones, your own voice will sound better and clearer with the Zalman, and your ears will thank you for getting good headphones.

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 looks nice but I don't want to much bass. I want a more balanced headset. And I was wondering if the Astro A40 2011 Edition is a very balanced headset.

I have a set of these.

I got the set with the amp as well so you can have 2 sound sources going into it.

2 sets of speakers and the headphones. Really cheap but the surround sound is amazing.

They senn pc360s are over priced. You can get the HD595s for $100 cheaper + better sound quality.

You don't really need to spend 200+ to get good heaphones. If anything some of the best models are under < $150 .

A better option outside your poll would to look at the Shure SRH440.

The Shure's have a balanced sound with great sound quality, solid bass response but not overwhelming which looks like what your after.

In terms of the midrange its clear and has good detail in the treble.

They go for about 100 dollars and then buy a Zalman Clip on mic.

In comparison to say a Senheiser HD555 or HD595 the sound is more engergetic and fun, a brighter sound. Senheiser models are made with a laid back response which makes them less energetic and fun and more dull and cold sounding.

Might be too late here but, I have A40 2011's they are crap quite frankly. Their bass is phenomenal but the mids and highs really seem muffled and when it comes to competitive gaming you don't need bass you need your mid and high tones to get that detailed sound.

My PC360s are on the way and I'll use them with the wireless 5.8 mixamp. From what I've heard they are far superior to the Astros. Managed to pick them up for $190 which is ok I guess.

PC360s are Sennheisers with a mic. A40s are Astros. Between those two, obviously Senns.
