GPU dying (?) - Need suggestions on a new one

Thread Starter
So, my sig rig is artifacting like crazy. Green pixels appearing everywhere, games getting graphical glitches (strange blocks appearing in Trine, textures being stretched out to infinity in Crysis), things like that. Probably gonna try to bake it, but I doubt it'll do much. Other suggestions are welcome, but I'll get to the actual point of the thread.

I need a suggestion for a new video card. I play demanding games, and watch HD video files, things like that. My budget is around 200 Euro, and it'd be nice if it's of equal or higher quality of my current one.

Thanks in advance.

Pick up an Nvidia 560Ti, or an AMD/ATI 6950, unlock the shaders, and overclock it to match a 6970.

I picked up my Asus GTX480 in my sig brand new 4 weeks ago from scan.co.uk for £189,newer 5xx cards have pushed 4xx prices down in uk.

If prices are the same there id buy what i have as they easily outperform the the 2 cards previously mentioned althought they do get warm! soon sorted though if you watercool

Because your Medion MD32110PR is 19'' at 1280x1024 and your CPU is 'merely' a dual core C2D E8400 at 3GHz, having a much stronger graphics card (than your 9600GT) will give you severe bottleneck and IMHO, it is not worth it and is just a waste.

Rather, I would plan ahead and save a portion of your budget (200 Euro) into a fund which will upgrade your entire system at a later stage.

To this end, I would suggest a GTS250 (which is basically an improved 9800GTX+) , hopefully you can find in your country at around 100 Euro, leaving you with the remaining 100 Euro going into that fund.

Upgrade to a gts250 or a used 260 or something ... Then UPGRADE your monitor , and after that your cpu . Though your cpu isn't bad when overclocked . In my sistem (sig) i have a overclocked e5400 / i tested it with my friend's q6600 and i don't see so much of an improvement over the e5400 . I only see big improvements in gtaiv / metro2033 .

Thanks for the replies. Main problem is most of the cards suggested here I can't find for a reasonable price (most more than 50 bucks over my budget already), mostly because of my location. So, I was wondering, how trustworthy is ebay for hardware like this? I'm a bit iffy on it, but I do know their buyer protection is pretty good. Curious if you guys give it a yes or no.

About the GTS250 windfire suggested, do you mean this one?

And yeah, I know I should probably start saving up for bigger hardware expansions, but I'm moving out soon, so I can't make really big expenses yet. I probably have enough money to make myself one kickass machine, but it would also mean living with my parents another 2-3 years. I might upgrade more when I moved out and see how much I can actually spend.

overclock that cpu to al teast 3.3 ghz and you can get a 560/470 that would easily cope with it .

Yes, that Point of View GTS 250 512MB is ok.
As the Scan link (in my post above) shows, there are 2 versions of GTS250, 512MB and 1GB. They should not differ much in the price. So, if you can find a 1GB version, I suggest getting that one as it can support better a monitor of up to 1080p.

Though I do not have personal bad experience with buying off from ebay (yet), I would generally avoid it if possible. Is that a brand new POV GTS250 with warranty? If yes, then I suppose it is OK.

I did a little searching and I found this reseller in your country which carries a good selection. It is 4Launch (http://www.4launch.nl) and its cheapest GTS250 1GB is a Gigabyte one which is the same price as a 512MB version. It sells at 95 Euro (including BTW).
