My First Intel Computer

Hello forum!

After reading tons and tons of good reviews on the Sandy Bridge I got very excited about the very high overclocks! So I thought "Heck I want to do that too!"

So for my first Intel build I will use:

Intel Core i7 2600K with Corsair H70
MSI P67A-GD65 B3 or MSI P67A-GD80 B3
G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB (2 x 4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 CL9

What are your thoughts on my build? Would you like to change something?

Many Regards

Do you do any media transcoding or use any multithreaded apps? If not, I'd suggest a 2500k (its just a 2600k without the 4 extra threads). Other than that you're golden

Hey!

Well I do some video editing and such but not very often.

Would the motherboard be okej? Since it was only 140 bucks.

Would I need some extra mosfet cooling for overclocking or am I good to go?

Well it's really your call about the 2600k, depends if the extra threads are worth the extra $$ (but if you can afford it, might as well I guess? haha) and the mobo looks pretty solid to me. Also when you say 140 are you talking about the open box? or did you just find it cheaper than newegg? Either way, that is a solid motherboard And you won't need any additional cooling, these i5s overclock more on the chip than the board

Well I thought I would get some good parts now so I dont have to upgrade them untill next year.

Its a brand new motherboard. I just got confused about the price since my Formula was 220 bucks. So thats the reason I asked

That is good to know!

About the motherboard, is there any diffrence on the MSI P67A-GD65 B3 and MSI P67A-GD80 B3 other than price range?

Well one is listed as having 2 PCIE x16 lanes, the other has 3. However, there might be some other differences in regard to power phases, but unless you plan on doing some exttreme ocing (like ln2 or something) I think you'll be perfectly happy with the cheaper board

So the MSI P67A-GD65 B3 motherboard should be able to handle an OC to 4.5 GHz (If the chip lets me) ?.
