Entanglement is a unitary process. There is no, "Well Bob, we got 'em. What do we want to do? Ah, **** it. Lunch break!"

They've already teleported buckyballs which is more complex than a single photon. I'm not sure if this is a breakthrough or not.

So unless we can find a way where we can move our conscious mind from one body/form to another without destroying it, you don't want to teleport.

For instance, instead of teleporting our own body and mind, we could develop puppets we control with our mind (think Surrogates or Avatar) with teleportation communication and then teleport the puppets
If you were teleported atom by atom, your "conscience" is just a bunch of chemical reactions in the brain; "you" would still be the same person. There is no invisible "conscience" that exists outside of matter.

What comes out of the teleporter would to everyone else appear to be exactly you. The original you however would have been destroyed when you were dematerialized and what would come out while being an exact copy of you wouldn't be the same you. We aren't claiming there is some invisible consciousness or soul because we now know that to be pretty much absurd but it doesn't change the fact that while the person coming out is essentially 100% you it still is a copy and not the original so YOU would be dead despite the fact that there would still be a you walking around.

maybe they will start duplicating things :O

imagine building a kickass system and duplicating it

i. I see you completely ignored my response on the matter and just rehashed an old argument from earlier in the thread.
ii. Lawl at biased opinion-making. Apparently you're more intelligent than every PhD holder on the subject since we still don't know what entails a consciousness.

If you dematerialize an object on earth then rematerialize it on mars, or wherever, its not the same entity. They are discreet beings. The one dematerialized is no longer a coherent entity, and has no bond to what is created elsewhere - it is simply a copy.
Not if the original being was changed into energy, sent to the destination. then recompressed into the original entity.

Conservation of energy.

If your soul is not bound by solid matter, then it means that it does not have an energy nature, which means that no, it would not make a dent on spacetime.

If all i have to do to be in mars by the next second is just to die for 0.000000001 seconds, i see no problem in it. I probably wouldn't even notice it.

In other news.

They exploited quantum entanglement. Which makes sense.
Nonetheless, it is teleportation.

Enterprise, 1 to beam up.
Just because it has the same everything doesn't mean it's YOU. It's an exact duplicate of yourself, that doesn't mean you control it.

No matter how hard they try, it's just a duplicate. If the teleporter didn't remove the original, then you would just see another you. But you'd have no control over them, they just be another person with the same memories, beliefs, etc.

No matter how much you argue - duplicates are exactly the same, but they are NOT the same thing. If 2 of you existed, you would only control the orginal. When you teleport you are duplicated. It wouldn't be you.

The only way teleportation would work is if they found a way to teleport without removing the original, and instead moving the original. I don't see how moving something without "rebuilding" it is possible, but who knows.

I don't know what it is, but I think some people just lack the ability to fully understand what we are trying to explain. They just don't get it. A copy is a copy, a duplicate is a duplicate.

If you duplicated yourself 20x (which is what a teleporter would do, and just delete the original) you wouldn't control all 20 of yourself. It wouldn't be possible. You'd control the original, and the other 19 you would control themselves. They would be different people, but at the same time they would be the same person.

Think about it, if we could clone ourselves exactly, and implant our memories and everything into it. It will be a 100% copy of us, but we will still exist, and have our own consciousness and such or "soul" or whatever you want to say it is. But if we killed the original, does that mean we start living from the clone? No. I think thats how others are thinking about it, sure it will be 100% physically you and have all your memories, but it aint you. They wouldn't know it, you wouldn't know it (cause you'd cease to exist, as from the moment you went to get teleported, you died, black, nothing, like going unconscious without dreaming forever, its over man, GAME OVER) But the copy coming out the other end will honest to god believe he is you, and why wouldn't he? He has your memories, your body, your everything... Still doesn't mean its you. Simple as that. I don't care how far the tech comes, I won't step into anything like that.
Exactly. If people can't grasp that then they just lack the ability too. I have friends that just can't grasp it.

As soon as teleportation exist, duplication will exist. Duplication would be easier to achieve than teleportation i'd think.

Scary world if we actually invent this technology.

That is not how this teleportation works though, It destroys the original then rebuilds it. It doesn't "transfer" it. Totally different things. If they actually find a way to "transfer" without killing and rebuilding, then yes teleportation could work on living things.
