What should I upgrade for my birthday? [HELP ME]

Thread Starter
Hey,
I plan on adding a 3rd HD6970 for Tri-Fire maybe in June, I know my PSU would not be enough, already planned to buy a Corsair AX1200.

However, I wondered if my motherboard supports tri-fire?

I heard it does x8-x8-x4, would I notice a lot of performance hit? Is it worth it or should I stay on Crossfire?

My birthday is in about 3 weeks, and I am probably going to have around 200€-400€ to mess with...

What should I upgrade on my PC?

I was thinking of:

- Saving it for Ivy Bridge and Kepler graphic cards or whatever comes out from AMD at 28nm
- Getting my i7 2600k and both 6970's on water or just the CPU
- Getting 2 more monitors for Eye-Finity, then again I'm scared that 2 6970's wont be enough to max out all current games @ +60fps

What would you do in my position? Keep in mind I'll have from 150€ up to like 350-400€

Already decided on Eye-Finity, I will be ordering 2 more Acer H233H monitors to match with mine as soon as I am back home in Germany in 3 weeks

Now I just need to find a store that keeps selling them, thanks a lot for all the suggestions, I really apperciate them all!

Update - 21st April

Alright, looks like I may not have enough budget for EyeFinity, so I posted some other plans here:

http://www.overclock.net/13216848-post60.html

I need your suggestions guys!

Thanks in advance to any replies,
Kevin.

It would run fine with x4. Also your psu would handle the power of 3 6970s, but you will only have 4 power cables for your cards at your disposal.

With your Sig resolution, I'd stay put and suppress and upgrade itch you may have for the time being.

Asus says it only does CF. I had a P67 WS Revolution and is a very nice board with the nicest gpu layout with a 8x8x8x8 slots. I would get that if you dont want to spend the money in a Maximus board.

Well, there's nothing that my 6970's can't run maxed out with AAx8 even Metro 2033 is a joke lol

But I just have an upgrade itch, don't know what to upgrade...

Maybe I should buy a new CPU cooler although mine's new already, or well, don't know, maybe 2 accelero xtreme plus for my cards?

I do not have the cash to buy a new motherboard, so if I can't tri-fire on this mobo, then I will pass on tri-fire.

Go eyefinity and if you can't max out certain titles then get another GPU.

Reason I didn't go eye-finity yet is mainly because:

- I don't like multi-monitors, if something, I may upgrade to a Dell U2711 2560x1440 in some future or some other gaming monitor

- I heard many horror stories where Eye-finity adds micro-stuttering in some games, plus I don't like how the games look in 3 monitors

- I'd need more GPU power probably to max out all current games.

- I prefer buying a bigger monitor

You can upgrade other things if you have the itch, like speakers/Headphones (Don't know what you're using ATM).

I have a Logitech G35 headset, which I am quite happy about, sure they're USB headsets, but the quality is quite good for my taste Specially the explosions in BFBC2, I have crappy Logitech X-540 speakers, but I rarely use them

Also, just changed the thread title

Thank you all for your replied, +REP to all suggestions
