Overclocking i7 930

Thread Starter
I just installed my NH-D14.

I was at 3.8ghz stable with 1.3 vcore.

I bumped the baseclock up to 21x191 with 1.35 vcore, and now every time I start, my computer gets stuck at the memory controller screen until I unplug some of my hard drives. After that, if it passes the memory controller post, my computer will just crash.

Is there possibly some issue between the voltage and the ICH10R, and the overclocking?

Everything works fine after I go back to 3.8ghz with all hard drives plugged in.

Any ideas on how to get this stable? (I also have 12GB of RAM.)

I'm away from my computer at the moment, I'll try to get those asap.

Do you guys think that the overclock is affecting the memory controller? (ICH10R)

Edit:
I realize you are at 4.4ghz, but could you tell me your overclock settings, as you have 12GB of ram too.

Do you have all 6 DIMM slots occupied? The X58 platform doesn't really like having to power all 6 DIMM slots AFAIK

Also, make sure your DRAM voltage isn't over 1.65v.

To get mine to 4.2GHz (with same mobo) I use the following;

vcore - 1.34v
IOH - 1.16v
ICH - 1.2v
DRAM - 1.65v
QPI/DRAM - 1.35v
CPU PLL - 1.84v
LLC - Enabled

Perhaps you need to drop the vcore a little? 1.35v for 4GHz sounds a little bit high. I know each chip is different but I can do 4GHz on about 1.275v and my chip is a pretty standard overclocker (its not a golden chip, its not a bad chip. its middle of the road).

So try dropping the vcore perhaps? If that doesn't work, try removing 3 sticks of RAM
