help planning a wodden test bench build

Thread Starter
so, im going to build a test bench kind of thing. but im faced with many problems. firstly, im only able to primarily use 2x1 inch planks which could cause problems. secondly, with the amount I change my GPUs, the part that the PCI card screws go in would have to be made of metal.

so I was thinking that I could use a technique I learned in school and press several of the planks together with glue and make one sheet for the mobo tray and one for the lower part where the PSU etc will go. also, I was thinking I could make the PCI card holder part from wood but then put a thin sheet of metal over the top and thread it, good idea?

I think this could be really good, I just need to do it right, could you please submit ideas or plans or whatever

First off you better off getting a piece of thick plywood rather then gluing small planks together. Personally I think it looks cleaner for this type of thing and will save you time.

For the pci-e card holder you can salvage one from an old case or buy one online for cheap, make's it look nicer and again will save work rather then making a wood one.

Here's link's to mine, feel free to take idea's or ask questions.

When I built my techstation from scratch (in my sig), I didn't use a backplate to hold GPUs down. I estimate I changed no less than 15-20 GPUs and never had an issue. If I'm understanding what you want to do with planks, you essentially want to take 2x 1" x 2" planks and join them together to make 1x 2" x 2" plank. This will be fine then you can stand them up vertically as the support structure.

Photobucket is having issues so I cant show you pics at present, but I will sub this thread and show you what I'm talking about as soon as I can.
