Overclocking E8400 woes - Page 2

Honestly, with stock cooling on the CPU, I would consider playing Black Ops at Medium settings. I am sure that you can get playable frame rates therein, couldn't you?

As a side note, what kind of PSU do you have driving this rig?

Well, with my "cooling mod" i'm consistently getting 40-45C under load while gaming, and its stable now. I'm very happy i've never actually overclocked a CPU this far with success, i normally just give up!

I have a 750W PSU supplying it, i'm not sure who makes it. Its from an alienware computer.

Now I'm using x2 GTX 470s in SLi with my stable O/C of 3.6GHz and the game runs great although i'm still not satisfied but i'm not sure if there is anything i can do...

Using FRAPS, it shows i'm getting a constant 45-55 FPS in black ops. Two concerns i have though...

When i first join the game initially, its very choppy (10FPS) but once i guess it 'learns/loads' the level, its not bad at all and actually quite smooth. Despite getting average 50+fps in black ops though, it still feels choppy from time to time, ESPECIALLY when panning left to right (moving the mouse side to side to look around)

Ive heard other players complain about how choppy it is as well, MW2 is not like this at all. MW2 is perfectly smooth at max resolution and everything maxed out.

Any thoughts?

Is this when you play the multiplayer mode or single player?

I haven't played it, so I don't know what kind of Graphics options there are. You might consider shortening the draw distance, if you can. Are you forcing Global settings through the nvidia control panel or is this Game Settings only?

Ive only played multiplayer, I tried tweaking some black ops config settings and that helped a bit but its strange that this game is so demanding... or alteast i think it is.

On another note, ever since i started overclocking my computer it won't let me use AIM messenger or MSN messenger and windows can't do live update either... strange

That's odd... I would venture that it's a symptom related to your fire wall. When ever I make a change in my BIOS my Firewall pops up to tell me that something is different. It hasn't effected anything, but that doesn't mean it isn't doing something to you.

What Firewall are you using?
