Fun platformer/indie/strategy/tower defense games?

Thread Starter
I'm pretty bored of my PC games so I'm looking for something new to spark my interest. I was just playing Umbrella Adventure which was okay but it didn't really do much for me. I was looking on Steam for some TD games but couldn't find anything that looked fun.

Just looking for any kind of platformer, indie, strategy or tower defense game to pass the time with. Something that looks nice and is addictive. Don't say Plants vs. Zombies because I've beaten that like 3 times and survived like 43 flags on Survival Endless. Thats another topic though. Any suggestions?

I see you are a fan of Warcraft 3. Have you played DOTA as well?

Oh man, I've got a ton of stuff I could throw at you.

But if you want something totally different, I suggest giving 10 Second War a try, I did a write up of it yesterday.

Defense Grid: The Awakening.

Got it yesterday, reminds me of the countless hours I spent playing tower defense games on Starcraft years ago.

There is a demo on Steam.

Defense Grid. System Protocal One. Sanctum.

All 3 are on Steam. I haven't played Sanctum yet, but the other 2 are highly recommended, and they aren't n00b TD's like PvZ.

IF you're looking for free TD's to play look for stuff like: Bubble Tanks, Bubble Tanks 1.5, Gemcraft: Chapter Zero, Protector 4: Mercenaries, Cursed Treasure.

Those free one's are all really good, and are good time sinks.

Yeah I watched a video of Defense Grid on Steam but didn't realize there is a demo, I'll have to check that out. Thanks. I've also played a TON of TDs on Starcraft I,II and especially Warcraft III.

Indie games - Trine (Co-op puzzle platformer), Torchlight (Gotta play this if you loved Diablo), WorldofGoo (Build a tower with goo, puzzle game), Shatter (breakout on steroids)

Those are some the most fun games I have played for a while, all pretty recent indie games.

That looks like something similar to FrozenSynape byt playing from the soldiers view instead of the commander.

As you wish

Here's a game called Runman: Race Around The World which is a terrific platformer.

Some pretty visuals and down home southern style tunes.

Worth checking out

I'd check out Torchlight but its single player, I don't think I'd be able to get into a dungeon crawler without my friends. I'm waiting for Torchlight II to come out. And yeah I played a crap ton of DII as well. I'll check the others out though, thanks!

Dunno if I can get into that, visually it looks realllly childish but at the same time it looks like a really hard game haha. Worth a shot though!

Then you should definitely check out Heroes Of Newerth if you haven't already. Same playstyle so you will know what to do right from the start. Most of the heroes are imported from Dota so you have an advantage over other new players. Requires playing a lot and reading guides/watching tons of replays to become decent at it and its very competitive. Been playing it for a while now and its the only game i liked so far after quitting WOW 2+ years ago. Everything else i got bored after 2-3 hours.
