I had the same issue with my late P5Q Pro..

It didn't want to start up (just moved fans for a split of a sec and nothong)

After maybe 20 trials it did start up but also blew a IC that controls one of CPU power phases..

There was no short going on of any kind as it happened suddenly when my PC just turned off..

If I would disconnect 8Pin CPU power cable it would power up,but with it plugged in the mobo no go..

It probably has nothing to do with your PSU as the mobo is failing..

CHEERS..

Interesting.. I've never had this hardware power on completely - its all cherry. Is there a way to prevent that from happening?

Have you demounted the board out of your case and onto a desk? I know it will be a huge hassle, but you should do this to eliminate your case as a factor.

try it off the mobo tray and on a box with the anti static bag between. the board may not be seated properly/flat. had the problem with mine and it stopped 2gb of ram from showing

I haven't tried it out of the case.. i wanted to eliminate everything else before I took it out. If it's the case - mm extended ascension - should I do?

Avoid the anti-static bag. The bag itself is conductive (I believe), and that's how it gets the anti-static properties. Just run the board on cardboard.

1. First make sure that there's no short on the mobo of any kind..

2. Also take out everything from the system but RAM (CPUs,graphics,HDDs etc)

3. Then try to start it up..

If it fails to start up (spin the fans) then:

4. unplug 8Pin CPU power cords from the mobo and start it up..

5. If it starts up without 8pin cble then its your mobo failing and I would recommend you to RMA it..

P.S.: You could kill one of your CPU's if mobo burns out a power phase with CPUs installed so do not try to much, just those steps above posted ..

CHEERS..
