i5 2500k OC & Xigmatek Balder

Hey, just recently got my new system setup, running i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz, seems to be stable, no crashes under any tests I've done or any games I've played whatsoever.

My temps on the CPU idle around 35-40C, under IBT they're around 65-70C, are these safe for 24/7 usage, and normal for a Xigmatek Balder?

I followed this guide when I was overclocking, didn't do anything else I don't think.. at least not for the CPU or Memory.

I felt the heatsink right after running IBT through the 5 times... and nowhere on it did it feel hot or even hardly warm at all... I don't think that's a good thing?

I most likely installed it wrong, and if I didn't, that still leaves the thermal paste, I don't know how well I did at applying it, I just put 2 lines down the heatpipes on the heatsink and mounted it.. the instructions that came with it sucked, they were pretty much no help at all, and didn't even include anything for the 1155 socket even though it says it's compatible with it. When I was mounting it, it did move around a good bit, it was kind of tricky.. not sure if that matters too much.

Here are some screenshots...

download realtemp 3.67 for more accurate readings also those gflops indicate that your not using the latest linkpacks, If you have SP1 installed then use the one posted below

EDIT: Regarding what volts and temps are safe are not really known, but as the cpu throttles at 95c (I think) it's a good idea to stay below 85/80, myself and others have found keeping it below 70c to be a good mark

EDIT: Usually a small uncooked grain of rice of paste in the middle is good, just let the pressure of the heatsink spread the paste itself. With regards to the heatsink staying cold, well thats good isn't it ?

Thanks, I don't have SP1 installed yet, I see it in the updates.. but my internet has been dropping every 30-45 seconds for the last day or two, kinda hard to download with that.. Hopefully it's fixed soon though..

35-40C Idle temps don't seem out of the ordinary or extremely high for you? I honestly don't know what I should be expecting though.

Idle temps are slightly higher than normal but thats not important as the load temps. Now and again some forget that ambient temps play a HUGE part in determining temps

Still curious about the heatsink though, shouldn't it be getting warm at all?
