Hey guys!
smile.gif

I know we see a lot of AMD vs Intel threads, but this one isn't about which one is "better". I just wanted to know your opinions on which one I should choose for my build.

The rig will be used to game, but also to do graphical work (with Photosop, Sony Vegas, Adobe Flash and Adobe After Effects) and probably some 3D animation. This rig is on a "budget" of 2100$. Right now, with the i7 2600k and the Asus P8P67 pro, I'm just tight. I want to loose up a bit, so that's why I'm asking this.

Any other suggestions (including mobo suggestions) are appreciated!

Thanks!

just make sure you get an AMD motherboard that will support AMD's Bulldozer processors for future upgrade.
Thanks! And +rep for super-dupper fast reply!

Yeah, definitely the X6 over 2500K. The 6 cores will come in use when doing editing/graphical tasks. And as the other guy said as well, make sure you can support BullDozer if/when you wanted to upgrade to more cores in the future.
Isn't Bulldozer gonna use the AM3 socket?

Also, after overclocking 3 different SB setups, I can safely say that it's completely effortless getting to 4.6GHz on air or cheap AIO watercooling (H50, H60, etc.). After that, it just depends on how good your chip is.
Wow! Thanks for that! But now I can also see that the i7 2600k is better than the 980x... So I may stick with it...

I wish we could be able to +rep moderators too!

I'm gonna go with watercooling BTW!

The 2600K, HT should help out in programs that can use it. Also the clock advantage will be huge over the AMD when at a easily achievable 4.5GHZ.

Thanks guys for the suggestions! I guess I'm gonna stick with the i7 2600k..

Any suggestions for a cheaper mobo than the P8P67 pro that still is great quality and has similar options? If possible, stay on the Asus side!

I mean 13 seconds really isn't that big a deal to me to wait, considering you saving $100 which could be for an SSD,etc.

The only problem with this is that the 1100t is going to be obsolete much faster than the 2600k and the amd motherboard most likely wont see a cpu upgrade in the future. Atleast with the p67 motherboard, it will support ivy bridge.

The applications you listed take advantage of HyperThreading and will give the i7 2600K an advantage of 10-20% over the 2500K. The Phenom II X6, if you plan on water cooling, is just a waste of money. With a Core i7 2600K at 4.8GHz and a Phenom II X6 at 4.2GHz, the 2600K will be anywhere from 20-30% faster depending on the application. The Core i7 2600K will also be much more efficient than the Phenom II X6 since it'll consume less power while running the programs while also getting it done quicker, thus also going into a low power state faster.

They don't fit in the 600T

I'm not buying before the end of november though... So if Ivy is out, totally using it!
