hey guys!

wich cpu do you suggest to me? i'm running a nice 975X, but i'd like to upgrade!
wich should i choose ?

i7 970
i7 980X ?

both six cores ...my goal is to get 4.7/4.8ghz ht on for benchmarks, wich of the both cpu listed can to easy this speeds?!

is the 970 so different from the 980x ? (unlocked multiplier apart)

thanks

970 and 980 oc about the same.

If you want to get higher, probably look into getting a 990x as they seem to overclock better.

If the rig is for benching the other advantage of the unlocked multi is for memory overclocking. When the multi on the 970 is maxed you are still using bclk to clock higher & the memory ends up at the frequency it's at, with the unlocked multi you can manipulate the bclk better to basically OC the memory & cpu to the frequencies you want.

The 990x is pretty much a well-binned 980x.

well.. with my actual 975x i'm not having so much fun by overclocking rams, so maybe if i change cpu i can go toward the 970 .... and i'll do just what you have written there ...

Yeah, if you aren't going sub-zero on the cooling the 970 & 980x will still OC very similarly, it would be quite a bit of extra coin just to play with the memory more.
