Advice needed on Overclocking Case

Thread Starter
I am building a new computer and now i am also looking for new Case. My old one isn't sufficient anymore and now i would like to have some advice.

I am looking for a case that has a good airflow, that has a lot of cooling possibility, that has enough room so that i don't need to worry about having to little room.

I was thinking about the NZXT Phantom. But since this case is allready a year on the market i was wondering if there are any new cases on the market that give a better performance then the NZXT Phantom.

I have a budget +/- 200 $

Please give me some advice.

Corsair 600T or HAf series. The Phantom is OK, but it's not for everyone. I would really recommend you see one in person before buying it.

Cooler Master HAF 932. It has excellent airflow and big enough for WCing and future upgrades.

A list of your components and such would be great... no point suggesting something like a Haf X to someone with an Athlon II on a mATX board and a 4600 GPU or something you know. If you don't need hardcore you could get great cooling mids for $50-$70. Or entry level Fulls for $100 or less.

Then you could keep the cash, or put it towards another upgrade.

Or, you might be running some hardcore components and need a great case that allows for water cooling. The details would be nice

This...

But I also second the vote for a haf 932.... Call me biased, but that case is unbelievable...the airflow is unlike any other case I've ever seen...

Okay so here is the idea.

This is my computer at the moment. I have build it let's say 1 1/2 year ago.

Graphic card: Asus EAH4870/HTDI/1GD5 | 90-C1CLGP-L0UAY00Z
Mobo:Asus Rampage II GENE | 90-MIB850-G0EAY00Z
Power supply:Cooler Master Silent Pro M600 | RS-600-AMBA-D3
Ram:Corsair XMS3 DHX DDR3 2x 2GB 1600Mhz | TW3X4G1600C9DHX
Processor:Intel Core I7 920 2,66Ghz Boxed | BX80601920
DVD:LG GH22NS DVD Rewriter SATA Bulk
Current case:Thermaltake Soprano VX VD6000BNS | VD6000BNS
HDD:Western Digital Caviar Black 1000GB 7200RPM 32MB Cache

that is my current setup. Now the deal is a friend of mine has like somesort of the same computer and 1 day we decided to start overclocking his computer. After a lot of research month's etc we kicked up his computer to 4.0 ghz on intel 920 processor on the same motherboard. Since we achieved that i want to achieve it at my own pc aswell. The problem is my computer case sucks. I mean please don't even look at the case because it is just terrible cooling. it has 1 removable side and it has this huge thing attached to it which makes sure that the stock fan on the cpu desperses his air right out of the case. That would be good thing if u just want your computer running in stock mode but if u want to overclock that isn't a good thing because that attachment takes up all the room that an alternative cooler needs. Beside of that the case has no airflow and only 2 fans.

So another few things to note is that:
Asus rampage gene II NB is always getting a little hot on idle 70 degrees celcius. So i ordered a Antec Spotcool fan for that so it will decrease to about 45 - 50 degrees celcius.

At the moment my computer runs in stock mode and idl temps are 38-42 degrees celcius.
The problems start when i use prime95 to fully load my stocked computer settings. After 30 min of running it my temps are still going up and reach about 90 - 100 degrees celcius. Well if they run up that high in stock mode i shouldn't ever bother overclocking.

My goal is to get to 4.0 ghz aswell but i also want a case that is also prepared for the future. Also i need to know which coolers u guys recommend for cooling the processor i was thinking of going with the Noctua NH-D14
or going for watercooling but since this is the computer case section i can't ask you guys about what u guys think is the best cooling for processor at the moment.

So that is why i asked what case should be best.

I'm a fairly new Phantom owner, so here's my take on the case.

It's got very distinctive styling compared to a lot of the cases that seem to be popular around here, which maintain sort of military (haf series) or utilitarian (corsair/lian lie/fractal) styling. The phantom has smooth, sporty lines and a gorgeous profile.

The airflow on the case is fantastic, definetely as good as the HAF series. Room for 2x200mm fans up top to vent all the hot air out of the case, as well as a 120mm exhaust as well. 2x120mm fans on the side panel near the front and a 120 or 140mm at the front of the case bring in copious amounts of air. An additional 200mm fans can be mounted on the mesh window directly in front of the CPU/mobo, but it may have issues clearing certain "tower" type coolers.

Cable management in this full tower PC has been a dream come true. Plenty of space behind the mobo tray for even the most unruly of power supplies. My chied recommendation is to buy a baggy of 100 zipties for like a buck. It will make cable management a veritable walk in the park. The case has a massive amount of room so you will have no trouble at all fitting all your components in there.

Also, NZXT customer service is top notch. They frequently ship free items to customers that request them including fans, any components that may have been damaged when the retailer shipped it out, or even parts damaged during modification or maintenance of your case. I recently broke some of the mesh clips off that holds the screens in for the Phantom, and contacted their customer support via email at 1:00amm in regards to purchasing a new mesh panel. I got a response at 8:00am the next morning requesting my shipping address. They sent me out a free one the next day! The responses from customer service are very prompt, they will refer to your by your name if you provide it instead of "dear valued customer #95428", and they do everything in their power to satisfy their customers

Here is my photobucket album showing my Phantom at different stages of the build. Fair warning though, pics were taken with an ungodly piece of crap camera.

http://s64.photobucket.com/albums/h1...o%20Sasquatch/

i've modded my case a bit as well. I cut the fan mounts off from around the mesh window, removed the large HDD rack for improved airflow, and the white sleeved cables are NZXT brand sleeve kits.

On another note, I used that same piece of crap case for my first build! God what a nightmare turd from hell.

if you have any specific questions about this case, feel free to ask.

edit: also looksl ike newegg is doing a 10% off promotion on most NZXT cases, except the new accented phantoms that came out the other day. God I love that orange/blac one :0
