Need Help $500 budget HTPC - Page 2

Thread Starter
so I think I might go with this and just pick up another 1tb drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...t=Combo.610985

Now does anyone know of a nice m-ATX case? and should I get a cooler for the CPU? I won't be doing any OCing.

Dual core, doesn't matter whether it is AMD or intel. Then some ram to go with it, make sure to get a mobo with a good phase power setup it will ensure a longer life. You do not need a $200 cpu for a HTPC you will do perfectly fine with a dual, or tri core.

the combo you mentioned will work just fine for a htpc, and if you dont OC you shouldnt need a cooler for it, stock will work fine as well.

I picked up someting similar to the combo, evga h55v and a i3-550 with the WD green. works like a charm, has the stock cooler and you can hardly hear it.

That would've been awesome for me when I was going to make a HTPC as it has a standard HDMI port and not one of these crappy mini-HDMI ports.

I do not particularly recommend dual core athlon. I had an Athlon X2 64 6000+ 3.1 GHz and tried playing some 60 fps Blu-Rays I had and it was experiencing bottle necking (With my current card and a borrowed friends in SLI).
