As some people have mentioned some games use over 1gb of vram, especially (and mostly exclusively) when large amounts of AA are applied or you're playing at high resolution.
Oh trust me you can feel the difference.
See my sig? I went from 1Gb 5850 Crossfire to a 2Gb 6950.
While the 6950 was giving me lower frame rates in most of the games I played it felt a lot
smoother with less jerkiness and stuttering.
STALKER Call Of Pripyat being a good example, Game used to stutter quite a lot in some places. Was nothing to do with the cards as the 5850's had more then enough grunt to run the game with 4xMSAA. They just didn't have the memory.
With the 6950 the frame rates were again lower but all the jekiness had completely gone.
People who say you don't need more then 1Gb of VRAM are people who've never owned a 2Gb card.
The difference in smoothness is night and day.
