Power supplys fault for random shutdowns?

Thread Starter
first off heres the rig.
my guess is im running to much for what my psu can give

RIGHT NOW, ive underclocked my cpu from my 3.6ghz overclock
to 3.4

phenom ii x4 @ 3.4
1 250gb 7200 hdd
8gb 1600
1 sapphire 6870 @ 950/1050
1 dvd player 1 dvdrw/lightscribe
and about 5 fans going

when in game.. really only on minecraft
my computer will just shut down.
it hasnt done it in a week or so

but im wondering if maybe im drawing to much power and if
i am, my psu just stops everything, and my computer reboots.

its not temps, as ive monitored them while in game
i thought maybe my new metal oxcide thermal paste
was the culprit. but its had plenty of time to 'break it'

oh and its a modular 530w psu.
and yes, i have both video card plugs plugged in

Judging by the brand it could be the culprit. At least it shuts off when it detects overload.Get rid of it.

Also check the CPU cooling, it can do the same random shutdowns.

Best way to determine this issue would be to try a different Power supply, perhaps one with higher wattage ratings, or find one with the same wattage ratings, (I highly doubt you're pulling 530watts from the wall)

Cloud possibly just be the PSU going bad or failing on you, Test a different power supply and see what the results are.

Due note that that raidmax does about 230ws, and it doesn't do 230w nicely. The ammount of Amps on each rail is a lie too by the way.

Not sure how well that brand is, but since it has two 12v rails, make sure both of your video card's power connectors have one connection only from each 12v rail, not both on one 12v rail, as it can also cause the PSU to kick on OCP and shut down.
